New ‘recession’ wedding service lets friends and family foot the wedding bill.
Event management company and Dragons’ Den victors, D4M Ltd, has launched a unique ‘Gift List’ service for premarital couples to help pay for their big day amid fear that 2009 will see an increase of cancelled weddings across the UK, due to the current economic crisis.
With a reported average spend of £15,000 for today’s wedding; the D4M ‘Gift List’ is designed to help reduce this bill and is being welcomed by couples as well as wedding suppliers. Anything from the wedding dress and live band to table favours and canapés are being put on the list for friends, family and guests to select and either pay for outright or contribute towards.
“The recession is affecting us all and triggering a halt in our spending” says managing director of D4M Ltd, Julia Charles. “Your wedding is one the most special days of your life but it’s also one of the most expensive. Rather than postpone your dream, we are giving couples a service that allows them to reduce the costs.”
Post-engagement couples meet with D4M Ltd to discuss each detail of their wedding day and a cost is put next to each item. A list is then placed in the internet for friends and family to securely log into and make their contribution. As with the traditional gift list of presents, the couple can clearly see what has been paid for and what is outstanding. A list of what each person contributed to and their personal message is printed off and posted to the couple to help them with their ‘thank you’ cards.
Julia adds: “We have been organising and dressing weddings for nearly seven years and already we have heard of people cancelling their wedding due to financial reasons. We hope our Gift List service will allow people to go ahead with their plans for this year and let them enjoy what should be their perfect day.”
As well as arranging the Gift List, the company handles every aspect of a wedding that includes: venue finding, entertainment (as seen on Dragons’ Den); wedding dress finding; flowers; honeymoon and much more.
