Where to spend your wedding night

It marks the first night of your married life together, so don't overlook where you're staying on your wedding night! Here are some tips for organising a suite to suit...

Where to spend your wedding night

Your wedding venue

Your first port of call may want to be your reception venue, if they have on-site accommodation. It's the quickest and easiest option, and plenty of wedding venues will offer a special honeymoon cottage, suite or room. Not only will this be a lovely experience for you and your new spouse, but it's also by far the most convenient, as there will be no travel required. If your reception is being held in a hotel, then often you'll receive a honeymoon room as part of your package, or when you block book a suite of accommodation for your guests. You may want to request a late check-out, though!

A hotel

If your venue doesn't offer accommodation, then most of your guests are likely to either travel home or to the nearest hotel (you can see more information on arranging guest travel and accommodation here). You can either go to the most convenient or opt for a more luxurious one further afield if you'd prefer. However, it may be nice to share with guests, so that you can share breakfast together the next morning before bidding them farewell. Just be sure to book your bridal suite well in advance, as the best rooms are likely to get booked up quickly.

At home

If your venue is close to home, then there's nothing wrong with spending your first night as a married couple in your own house. This is a great option for couples on a tighter budget, or who prefer home comforts over spending the night in a hotel. There are no check-out times, either! Make sure that it's close enough to be convenient, as you may need to return to the venue the next day to clear away or pick up items.

If you prefer a homely feel over a hotel, but don't live close to your chosen venue, then a home renting service such as Airbnb may be the answer. Just be sure to let your host know that you'll be arriving late, so that you don't end up locked out on your wedding night!
