Inspired by the #whataboutweddings campaign, Sarah Howell (@thehopefulbride) submitted to us this poem. We hope you enjoy reading.
#WhatAboutWeddings
I can queue in shops single file
But not walk down the aisle
Because it would be mad
To hold the arm of my dad
I can order a roast
But not raise a toast
Of sparkling bubbles
It might bring trouble
And I can’t take a chance
And have a first danceÂ
With my other half
That would be daft
We can visit the pubs
All breath the same air
But I can’t make a speech
That would lack care
I can browse when I shop
And touch lots of things
But I must wash my hands
Before we exchange rings
I can have dinner and drinks
In a room full of strangers
But not with my friends
That would be dangerous
Days can be changed
But not in spirit or tone
Love is not cancelled
Not even postponed
I understand reasons
Behind all of our dreading
But I must ask this
What about weddings?
