The Sanctuary Spa

Run for women by women, The Sanctuary was established 30 years ago in the heart of London’s Covent Garden to provide powerful relaxing and rejuvenating treatments – especially for the female dancers who performed nearby. The Sanctuary has expanded and modernised, with new pools, beautiful relaxation areas and dozens of treatment rooms, and now most women entering The Sanctuary are not dancers but women who recognise that they deserve some time and pampering for themselves.

"We believe that if you feel good about your body, you feel better about yourself and the world around you. Women who take care of themselves have an inner glow that shows on their faces and in the way they carry themselves. The Sanctuary is about providing the time, space and expertise for women to renew that glow – whether you come in for a full day of treatments or just to relax by the pools with a close friend."

The Sanctuary is well known for its feature pool with a swing suspended above. In addition there are a range of pools, including one with jets. There is a hamman, sauna and sanarium, relaxation rooms and special sleep therapy beds, plus plenty of comfortable loungers, quiet corners and magazines.

Conveniently based just yards from Covent Garden tube station, this day spa offers a full range of treatments and packages, including very reasonably priced evening packages. Unlike other spas, The Sanctuary is spread over many floors with the main pool areas towards the top of the building, and is able to accommodate large numbers of guests without you feeling that it is at all crowded. The lower floors, where many of the treatment rooms are situated, had a slightly industrial feel, with pipes and cables running along the walls. Due to the central location the emphasis is on pleasing and relaxing surroundings within the building, rather than a relaxing view outside.

The facilities are extensive, and it takes the best part of the day to try out all the various pools and relaxation areas. As you would expect, the treatments are very good, and carried out by highly skilled staff.

We would particularly recommend The Sanctuary for anyone looking for a fun place to go with a group of friends, or anyone visiting a spa for the first time. The Sanctuary Spa
