Art Deco wedding venues
First things first – what are you looking for when you’re on the hunt for Art Deco wedding venues? Art Deco (or style moderne) is a style that originated in the early 1900s and became popular at the height of the 1920s and 1930s, so if your wedding venue was built during this time then it’s likely it has a distinctive style to it. Art Deco is characterised by clean lines, geometric shapes and natural materials such as jade, silver, chrome and ivory. It’s a gorgeous style that instantly gives any space a glamorous, vintage feel, which makes it the ideal wedding venue choice for vintage-loving couples. Luckily, London has no shortage of true Art Deco buildings, and these are some of our favourites…
Set in the leafy London borough of Greenwich, Eltham Palace is the epitome of elegance, as it combines medieval history with chic Art Deco interiors that look incredible in wedding photography. You’ll have plenty of space to enjoy, thanks to the 19 acres of moated grounds, and the fact that the palace was the childhood home of Henry VIII makes it perfect for history fans.
The Entrance Hall seats 100 guests for a ceremony or accommodates 200 guests for a glamorous drinks reception. Enter this gorgeous circular wedding panelled room from one of the curved staircases, before saying your vows beneath the glass dome ceiling. The French doors lead to the outdoor terrace where you can enjoy drinks afterwards with your friends and family overlooking the garden.
For larger wedding parties, visit The Great Hall, which boasts a unique blend of Medieval and Art Deco features. This grand open space works for ceremonies of up to 200 guests, but more usually hosts dining and dancing. The minstrels’ gallery is an ideal place for the band to set up, and if you’re lucky with the weather, you can venture out onto the lawns straight from the hall.
Based in central East London, Troxy is the perfect choice for couples who love the theatre, music and live entertainment. This Grade II-listed converted theatre is filled with incredible 1930s original features, and the size of the venue makes it ideal for large Asian wedding receptions in London. This is a venue that doesn’t need any extra decor, and as it’s a live music venue, Troxy also has a late license, so your guests can party the night away.
This picturesque hotel in East London’s vibrant Bethnal Green has all the grandeur that’s expected of an Edwardian town hall, but with the flexibility of a modern day wedding venue. Each of the rooms is licensed, which means couples have plenty of choices when it comes to their dream ceremony. The Edwardian Council Chamber features a triple height ceiling, enormous arched and elegantly stained glass panels, while the Council Chamber features original Art Deco furnishings lovingly restored to a sophisticated finish.
This is also the perfect venue for foodie couples, as the Town Hall Hotel is famous for their wedding catering, which is created by some of Britain’s most creative and most exciting chefs. What better way to spend your wedding day than tying the knot in a stunning Art Deco location before sitting down to a delicious feast made by one of the country’s best catering teams?
The University of London has some of the most impressive urban central London wedding venues, and Senate House is certainly one of them! This imposing Art Deco wedding venue in the heart of central London has three event rooms to choose from – Crush Hall, Beveridge Hall, and MacMillan Hall. These opulent rooms feature marble flooring, gold leaf finishing, oak doors and large windows, making them perfect for a striking ceremony and reception venue.
Once you’ve tied the knot in one of these exquisite spaces, head out into the private gardens at Senate House for your wedding photography. These beautiful green spaces in the heart of London can even be transformed into outdoor entertaining space, as the Senate House team can help you to arrange marquees, furniture, outdoor heating and lighting – before you know it, you will have created a romantic oasis for your wedding guests to retire to during the evening celebrations or drinks reception.
One of the most glamorous wedding venues in North East London, Hackney Town Hall is both sizeable and sumptuous. This decadent Art Deco wedding venue can host 550 guests standing, 420 theatre style and 250 for a dinner dance, making it perfect for large wedding parties or Asian wedding celebrations. If your guest list is slightly smaller, Hackney Hall can also host more intimate ceremonies of up to 148 guests. We’re big fans of the original features, including the graceful curved staircase, stylish 1930s chandeliers and original sprung dance floor.
For intimate drinks receptions, why not head into the Bridgetown Bar, which looks like something straight from the silver screen? With moody dark panelling, Art Deco chandeliers and elegant parquet flooring, Bridgetown Bar can accommodate 60 guests standing, which makes it ideal for a chic drinks reception for an intimate wedding or city elopement.
How to style your Art Deco wedding venue
Once you’ve picked the venue, you’ll need to know how to style it! Of course, a classic Art Deco wedding venue lends itself perfectly to a vintage theme – think bejewelled dresses, metallic accents, geometric patterns and sleek suits – or you can go for a modern edge for the perfect contrast to your historic wedding venue. We love the look of rich jewel tone florals, hanging Edison bulbs, minimalist table settings and perspex accents. Just a few ideas for your Art Deco wedding.
