If you’re planning on the ultimate seaside wedding, you need to have the ultimate in seaside food on your big day and The Gallivant Hotel in Camber, East Sussex is offering a brand new seaside menu for 2012, using the ultimate in local produce.

The Gallivant has a wide range of options available to make your wedding breakfast superb.Starters include classic prawn cocktail, a plateau de fruits de mer or a jellied ham hock terrine. These are followed by the classic Fish and Chips, battered using Kent’s favourite beer, Spitfire, and served with mushy peas and fresh tartare sauce. The fish used will depend on the season with cod, haddock, whiting and pollack among the choices. This is accompanied by pickled onions, gherkins, pickled eggs and bread & butter to make the ultimate English seaside wedding breakfast.
Even puddings are local with choices including a sparkling wine fruit jelly using Kent’s award winning Chapel Down fizz.
If you’re looking for something a little more glitzy but still with a seaside twist, The Gallivant can also offer wedding parties a shellfish bar for up to 150 guests, including Whitstable oysters, Rye Bay whelks, Folkestone crab and Weald smoked salmon alongside cockles and prawns.
The sharing theme continues with a Wedding Cheese ‘Cake’ using artisanal local cheeses including Winterdale Shaw cheddar, Kentish Blue and Bowyer Brie and any wedding meal can be topped off with an ice-cream bar, serving ice cream made to your own flavours and recipes, in a traditional waffle cone.
Chef Trevor Hambley says his aim is to keep it local, traditional and fun: “Being at the seaside should always be fun – but stylish too! The best of seaside cuisine has been brought bang up to date using the finest local ingredients. The Gallivant has some of the world’s best seafood caught right on the doorstep so it couldn’t be fresher, and it allows the Gallivant to offer a truly unique wedding experience, whether you want traditional fish and chips and ice cream or a sophisticated seafood bar.”
The Gallivant Hotel combines California-style driftwood decor with beachside fun thanks to its position on the magnificent dunes of Camber Sands, one of the UK’s largest and most beautiful sandy beaches.
Couples can make their marriage vows in one of the hotel’s stylish indoor spaces, in a beautiful local church or even a lighthouse before starting their celebrations with a reception in the sand dunes. A London bus is on hand to take guests to and from the church or town hall.
Unique to the Gallivant is their take on the pre wedding-breakfast reception. Each guest is handed a Gallivant beach bag and flip-flops and are escorted the short walk up and over the sand dunes. There they’ll find hampers of canapés and kegs of Sea Breeze cocktail along with wind breaks, deck chairs and rugs where guests are invited to an altogether different kind of drinks reception.
Back at the hotel the driftwood dining room, terrace and beach marquee make the perfect environment for an English seaside celebration, with colourful bunting, storm lanterns and decking. The marquee even opens onto the enclosed coastal garden.
