Smiths at Gretna Green

Smiths at Gretna Green opened in 2006 and brought a very new feel to the history and romance of Gretna Green. The hotel is the brainchild of Chairman, Alasdair Houston, whose family has been based at Gretna Green since 1886.  Smiths hotel is distinctly different to any other hotel within over an hour’s driving distance in this area of Scotland and offers modern, stylish accommodation.
On arrival at the hotel we were very surprised that this new, modern hotel did not look out of place at all alongside the historic buildings of the Famous Blacksmiths Shop.

Weddings:
Smiths offer a full team of wedding experts to help you plan your special day, whether it be a wedding at the Famous Blacksmiths Shop or within the hotel itself. The hotel offers plenty of space for receptions and can accommodate up to 150 people, and what we liked was the wide range of packages to suit all budgets.

Accommodation:
The choice of accommodation that Smiths offers is extensive, with a wide range of prices and sizes available from family rooms to luxury suites.

The Ash Suite (above) is perfect for wedding and honeymoon couples, with plenty of space both in the suite and on the balcony for you to spend some quality time together. We particularly liked the dining and sitting areas, which enables you to enjoy room service in real comfort. All of the furnishings within the suite are soft, neutral colours and the attention to detail is of the highest quality.
For those couples that prefer to have self catered facilities or are staying with children the newly opened Bensmore Suites (below) are perfect, with one and two bed suites with kitchenette facilities available.

Dining:
Smiths offer a wide range of dining options from their bar menu in the Smiths Lounge, to the Chainmail Restaurant A la Carte menu. Chainmail Restaurant is award winning, and has developed a reputation for offering high quality fresh, delicious simple dishes with a contemporary twist. What we particularly liked was the use of food from local producers, alongside the beautiful presentation.
This is perfect for couples on their own or in small parties, as they can either use the restaurant area or the two private dining areas which cater for up to 20 people.  A specific 20 guest package is available.

Everything can be taken care of at Smiths, from transport to Photography. And as an added bonus there is a Beauty Salon on site, offering hair, nails and make-up. This is a great facility to have at the hotel for bridal parties, offering peace of mind that they won't have to travel anywhere else to prepare for their wedding.

Overall Smiths is a fantastic place to stay if you are looking for the tradition of a 'Gretna Green' wedding, but wanting to stay in a modern hotel. We would highly recommend Smiths at Gretna Green for their accommodation, dining and overall expertise for organising memorable weddings.
