A wedding venue with a difference

One of the quickest ways to give your wedding day a unique spin is to book a wedding venue with a twist. These days you can get married everywhere from museums to zoos, from train stations to treehouses, and we think that picking out an unusual wedding venue will let your guests know right away that they're in for something different.

For a wedding venue with built-in entertainment, why not visit Wicksteed Park in Northamptonshire? The stunning pavilion can cater for up to a whopping 800 guests, which makes it ideal for large weddings, all while being set in 147 acres of Grade II listed parkland. Oh, and did we mention that it's also home to the UK's biggest children's playground? Wicksteed Park boasts everything from a vintage carousel, dodgems and boating lake to rollercoasters, log flumes and laser tag - which not only means that kids and adults alike are in for some amazing entertainment, but you'll get some truly unique wedding photos out of the experience.

For animal lovers, you can't get much better than a wedding venue with its own safari reserve! Port Lympne Hotel in Kent is a stunning 1920s 4* hotel set in the grounds of the county's largest wild animal park. With plenty of indoor and outdoor ceremony spaces (including the romantic Moroccan Courtyard and the Treehouse Suite for more intimate weddings), and the opportunity to take your guests on a private safari to spot rhino, tigers and giraffes, this is a wedding venue like no other!

A personalised cake

Who says that wedding cakes have to be traditional white with three tiers? For a fun alternative to a classic wedding cake, why not incorporate your favourite hobbies, TV shows or locations into your wedding cake, so that it's a true reflection of you as a couple? It'll still taste just as delicious, but your guests are more likely to remember it! We love the unusual wedding cakes created by Gardners Bakery in Northamptonshire, which feature everything from superheroes to Friends, and Las Vegas to Lego!

Unusual entertainment

There are plenty of ways to add a little extra fun to your wedding entertainment! A live wedding singer is always appreciated, but if you have talented guests, why not make the most of it by having a karaoke set at your wedding? Include it on your invites and ask guests to request songs for brilliant participation.

If you're having lots of children at your event, then a magician or children's entertainer will go down a storm (both with the children and the parents, who can relax and mingle). A bit of magic and balloon modelling makes for some great photos too.

If you both love a good pub quiz, then why not include a bespoke one as part of your wedding breakfast? It's a great way to get people chatting at their tables, and it can even replace the speeches if you're not a fan of public speaking.

You can organise all of these events (as well as discos and DJ sets) through the fabulous Dave Seamer Entertainment in Oxfordshire.

A bridal boat ride

If your wedding venue is by a river, then you could hire a boat for the ultimate arrival to your reception venue! For example, if you're based in Oxfordshire and marrying at an Oxfordshire riverside venue, then Salter's Steamers will transfer you and your wedding party down the River Thames to your reception venue, where your guests will be waiting for you at the docks.

Fun flowers

If flowers are your thing, then work with your florist to create unique wedding flowers. Picking the right wedding florist is key to ensuring that your alternative flowers work for you and will stay within budget. "My recommendation to the bride is to find a florist who will take the time to listen to and understand her unique brief," says Penny Chong of Penny Blossoms, Oxfordshire.  "Your quirky flowers could be inspired by a specific flower, a colour reference, remembrance of a loved one (alive or departed), a cultural connotation or a specific design style."

Film from above

More and more couples are looking to add a fun twist with their wedding videography, whether it's with stop-motion films, marry-oke or more. Our favourite new videography trend has to be the drone. With a drone, you can get incredible sweeping views of your wedding venue from above, as well as fun group shots of your entire wedding party from the sky. Just take a look at this video from award-winning videographers Severn Scent Videos in Shropshire...
