There was great excitement about the Brazilian Blow Dry a few years ago – a hair smoothing and straightening treatment that lasted three months and gave you fabulous glossy straight hair.
It seemed to be the solution to every brides’ concerns about having a bad hair day on their wedding day and was the solution to maintaining a great hairstyle for their honeymoon.
However, poker straight doesn’t suit many people and is inflexible for wedding hair-ups, styles have moved on and people realised that one of the key ingredients is formaldehyde — the stuff that’s also used in embalming fluid.
Kebelo addresses all these issues and takes it to the next level, removing frizz without killing the style.
The Kebelo treatment involves sealing a keratin treatment into the hair follicle. A follow up range of shampoo, conditioner and deep conditioning mask is included as part of the treatment package so that the effect can be maintained at home for up to 100 days.
Those that have tried the system have reported that their hair retains the effect far longer than the 100 days claimed and that each subsequent treatment is even more effective.
The treatment can only be carried out by an approved salon and takes around 3 hours, during which time the hair is thoroughly cleansed, the treatment is applied to a small strand at a time before being sealed in with hair straighteners and a cold blast of air, then washed out before the hair is styled.
The hair can be coloured straight after treatment if required, and some people report that their hair colour lightens slightly.
Unlike the Brazilian Blow-out treatment where the chemicals need to be left on and your hair kept absolutely straight for at least 3 days, once the treatment is complete you can wash and style your hair whenever you like.
I tried the treatment at Kriss Kross Salon in Carterton, Oxfordshire, a busy salon with dedicated and enthusiastic staff who really know their stuff and all rave about the successes they have had with clients trying the Kebelo treatment. Their Facebook page has an entire album of photos of before and after shots so you can see how it looks on different hair lengths and types.
The treatment was pleasant throughout, no unpleasant smelling chemicals or being left in a corner to “set”, made even more pleasant by the salon’s unbelievable hospitality; it is the first time I have been treated to a lovely fresh croissant to go along with a never ending supply of coffee.
Having got carried away chatting and looking at photos with salon owner, Paula Cross, time was of the essence to complete the treatment before dashing off to catch a flight for a sailing holiday – the ultimate test for a hair treatment. At times three hairdressers were working on my hair simultaneously to tame my thick shoulder-length hair in under 2.5 hours instead of the usual 3 hours.
I walked out of the salon feeling and looking great, with a style that survived an overnight flight and then the onslaught of high humidity, salt spray and wind. I resisted washing it for as long as I could and the style hardly moved – just a few nice waves creeping in.
After washing with the shampoo and conditioner, then just leaving it to dry naturally, my hair fell into soft curls instead of the dry frizz I am used to, and after every subsequent wash I have had exactly the same experience; it is so much easier to style, and for the first time I can just leave it to dry naturally without it going wild!
