How to Adapt to Your New Wedding Season

How to Adapt to Your New Wedding Season

No longer able to have that beautiful spring or summer wedding you've been dreaming of? Now that you suddenly have to postpone your special day to autumn or winter, discover all the benefits of these cooler seasons with Emma from Tythe Barn, Launton.

Due to the current climate, many brides will, unfortunately, have to postpone their dream spring or summer wedding which they had their heart set on. However, autumn or winter weddings can be just as wonderful. You may not get the weather you want, but this is never a guarantee in the UK! There’s a lot to be positive about, as many wedding venues can be beautiful, whatever the season. Here are a few tips on how to make sure your new wedding day will feel just as magical as the one you originally dreamed of.

Enjoy the Prep Time

Make sure you set aside some pampering preparation time. Whether this is a bespoke bridal preparation room at your venue or staying at home, after a bit of bubbly and your girls around you, it won’t matter what the weather is doing! Brides often say this was one of their favourite parts of their day - second, of course, to saying ‘I do’!  This wonderful tradition doesn't change with the seasons and is the perfect way to start your big day.

Inside or Outside?

Maybe you were planning a stunning outdoor ceremony? This could still be possible! With unpredictable British weather, you could have a brilliantly sunny, outdoor ceremony in October. It might even rain on your original summer date! However, if you'd rather be safe than sorry, moving to an autumn/winter date does often mean moving the ceremony indoors. If the weather looks good closer to the time, you could always choose to have a drinks reception or your photography outside. Many countryside wedding venues have walled or sheltered gardens that catch the afternoon sun, creating the perfect lighting for photographs. You may also find that your venue has fun, unique features in place for this time of year like the outdoor wood burners at The Tythe Barn in Launton. Inside or outside, the right decoration can transform the right venue into your dream wedding!

Adapt Anything and Everything

Still want to incorporate the outside into your big day? Outdoor spaces still play a role during an autumn or winter wedding. As long as your guests wrap up warm, (perhaps provide some blankets!) a crisp, winter evening can be truly magical.  You can even play some outdoor games, such as Giant Jenga or Connect 4! As long as it's not raining, there's no reason not to have some outdoor fun on your wedding day.  Don't feel you have to switch a summer colour palette for a winter one. Your wedding can be as bright as you like! But, some things, such as food and drink, can be easily adapted. Replace Pimms with mugs of hot chocolate for guests pre-ceremony, ice cream and strawberries with cheese towers and evening pizza can still be served around the fireside!  And there's plenty of new bonuses, such as fireworks and a sparkler exit, that can make up for the cooler temperature.

It's Still Your Wedding Day

So, whatever the season, you will still be surrounded by loved ones. The day is yours and everybody is there just for the two of you! Plans can change but your surroundings are not as important as celebrating your love.  Your wedding day the day you married the love of your life and started the rest of your lives together. That is what is so special about your wedding day. So, while you may be disappointed now, remember that it doesn’t matter whether the ceremony took place outside or inside or whether the croquet was played on the lawn or the coffee was served by the fire. No particular season or degree of sunshine can change that.
