Hotel L'Orologio, Florence

A great city centre hotel in Florence

The leading theme of the L’Orologio Hotel is inspired by the art of Fine Watchmaking or international "Haute Horlogerie".

The hotel has a more masculine feel than many of the highly decorative Florence hotels, and boasts a strong personality and attention to detail thanks to interior designer and architect, Marianna Gagliardi, who has aimed to achieve a fascinating sensory experience involving sight and smell, using materials like leather, parchment paper, dark brass and different woods.

L'Orologio has all you need from a city centre hotel with a wide range of rooms and suites.

In a city of art overload, the simplicity of the art in this hotel is refreshing; close ups of beautiful watches and time pieces abound in the public areas and the bedrooms, and the simple L'O branding is the only other decorative touch evident. Ceiling are double height giving a real feeling of space and, apart from in the glass walled breakfast area on the 4th floor, lighting is subdued.

Our experience

Looking at the hotel's website I had the impression of a city centre hotel where space is limited. I was delighted to find a series of bars, reception rooms, comfortable lounges with huge sofas, desks and coffee tables and even a tiny indoor pool between the main bar and one of the lounges - too small to swim in, but a lovely feature none the less, really emphasizing the feeling of space.

The hotel has a small fitness suite, and can arrange spa appointments for you at the sister hotel, Grand Hotel Villa Cora, which is just 10 minutes away in a courtesy car.

The hotel's position is great, looking out onto one of Florence's many piazzas, close to the train station and the right side of the city for the airport. There are numerous restaurants and some fabulous shopping in the vicinity - it is on the edge of the designer part of town - and has a quirky Irish bar a couple of doors away.

A perfect place to base yourself to explore the city centre, and a great hotel to pair with Grand Hotel Villa Cora for some rest and relaxation once you have seen the city's main sights.
