Honeymoon in the USA? Look outside California or Hawaii!

When it comes to honeymoon destinations in the USA, many people only think of the beautiful beaches of Hawaii or the spectacular Californian coast. In reality, these destinations are not only far away if you fly from the UK, but they are also among the most expensive, in large part due to their popularity.

However, there are countless other dream locations in the United States where you and your partner can enjoy a special trip together. The USA may also be one of the first countries to open its doors to international travellers again as the pandemic dies down. But even if the borders do not open in the summer, you can still submit an ESTA application for your travel permit, because an ESTA is valid for two years. As you can read below, apart from Hawaii and California, the USA offers many other places for an unforgettable honeymoon.

Adirondacks

Lake in the Adirondacks

Go for a luxury all-inclusive or camping holiday to the Adirondacks near New York. Spend your days hiking through the forests, looking for the perfect spot for a romantic picnic. In the evenings, you can dine in elegant style. This location, once owned by William Avery Rockefeller, embodies the 19th century ideas of romantic escapes.

Key Largo

Boat on ocean with palm tree

Key West usually gets all the glory and praise, but if you’re looking for a different setting with Instagram-worthy sunsets, Key Largo in Florida is the place to be. The Upper Keys, with their vast, warm, white sand beaches, are just an hour's drive from Miami. It has a chic beach house vibe and the bay sunsets are a tribute to the island's tropical surroundings. Couples who want to go a step further can cruise through the mangroves on an inflatable boat, take a cruise ship tour for a sunny ride down US-1 or take to the water on a stand-up paddle board.

Newport County

Newport county in Rhode Island

Newport County in Rhode Island has everything, with its authentic New England charm, stately homes and scenic coastal views. During the Golden Age, America's wealthiest families made this city by the sea their summer residence. Today, more than a dozen valuable properties have been preserved by dedicated organisations working to protect their heritage. For those looking for a quiet honeymoon, Newport offers many activities to entertain visitors, from cliff-hiking and sailing, to a visit to Fort Adams State Park.

Nashville

For couples who like to socialise and are looking for a healthy dose of culture on their honeymoon, Nashville is the perfect city, with great food, art and music. Your honeymoon will be filled with architecture - Nashville is known for its Parthenon, built in the image of the original structure in Athens - and musical inspiration from the shops on Music Row, as well as an unforgettable barbecue. For the ultimate in accommodation, book a penthouse suite near Pie Town to stay close to the bustling city centre.

Savannah

Savannah Georgia

Finally, Savannah in Georgia is one of America's most romantic cities, with cobblestone streets, mossy green trees, Southern charm and historic architecture. Many hotels and bed and breakfasts in Savannah also offer honeymoon packages. There is no shortage of activities and experiences here. Stroll with your loved one past the 19th century mansions and Spanish moss-covered walls to one of the 22 squares in the historic city, each with a beautiful garden perfect for a picnic.

In short, the USA has wonderful honeymoon options for every couple. While a honeymoon in the USA this year might seem very attractive, bear in mind that there is still a global health crisis. That said, it's never too early to plan ahead. One of the most important steps is to submit an ESTA application, the mandatory travel permit to travel to the USA from the United Kingdom or Ireland. You and your partner will both need to submit individual ESTA application. Fortunately, this can be done entirely online, meaning no visit to the US embassy in London is required. The ESTA is applied for by filling out the online form and making the payment, after which it will be electronically linked to your passport. An ESTA is not a paper document and therefore does not need to be printed.
