We recently had the pleasure of visiting Singapore for a few days on a stop-over and we were not disappointed! Singapore is one of the hottest honeymoon destinations for 2019, but also a great place to stop on your way to another destination.

Singapore has a lovely tropical rainforest climate with temperatures ranging between 23°C and 32°C. The hottest months are April and May, with fairly constant humidity throughout the year at 75%. With the arrival of November comes the arrival of the monsoons which continue until the end of January.

Things to do

Visit Sentosa Island

Sentosa Island has been appropriately named "the state of fun" as it is home to the incredible Universal Studios Singapore. We had the pleasure of visiting the studios and it really is a fun day out even without any children! The different lands they have on offer look just like a movie set and the rides really take your breath away! In addition to Universal, Sentosa Island features three incredible beaches. The most romantic of them all is the Tajong beach with its relaxing vibe and stunning views. Sentosa is accessible by monorail or cable car.

Shopping

Singapore is well known for its shopping, with some malls open 24 hours a day. Prices are similar to the UK, but there is an extensive range of brands that aren't available at home. So if you're looking for something no one else will have, Singapore is the place for you. It is important to note that many retailers are geared towards the Asian market despite a large number of visitors an ex-patriots.

The best place to visit is Orchard Road, a bustling shopping district, boasting high-end designers, gourmet restaurants and cinemas.

Marina Bay Sands

Marina Bay Sands is an incredible piece of architecture and design. It is a top of the range hotel with a casino and a selection of unique restaurants. Our favourite feature of this one of a kind hotel is the luxurious rooftop pool.

Visit China Town

Chinatown is a bustling area that is humming every hour of the day. Shop for souvenirs and find many of the cities Hawker Centres here where you can even find the cheapest Michelin star meal in the world!

Drink Singapore Slings

It would be rude to go to Singapore and not have a Singapore sling, wouldn't it? If you don't mind a queue, travel to Long Bar where this iconic cocktail was first created. Otherwise, every bar will definitely have this gin-based drink on the menu - delicious! Another drinks location that we loved was Haji Lane, a hipster area of town with art covering every building.

Visit the Marina

When you arrive at the marina you will be amazed by the view of skyscrapers across the water. There are plenty of incredible restaurants and bars with stunning views across the water. Every evening there is a light show on the marina which can be watched from the water's edge. The water is lit up in a spectrum of bright colours alongside music and it is quite spectacular to see.

There is also an incredible shopping centre here which features a river inside where you can take a short boat ride - very unusual!

Gardens by the Bay

When visiting we had been told by everyone that we had to go to Gardens by the Bay, a 101 hectre nature park. Once you arrive, travel to the supertrees where in the evenings you can watch an incredible light show. You can pay a small premium to have access to a suspended walkway between the trees for an even better view.

Places to stay

The Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa

Anyone looking for a honeymoon destination will be tempted by the Rasa Sentosa's beach and large, open form tropical swimming pool; both a rarity in Singapore. This is a large resort hotel, with an excellent spa and a good restaurant offering A La Carte as well as an extensive international buffet for every meal, and is perfect for couples wanting a couple of days relaxation and to avoid the hustle and bustle of the city centre of Singapore. Royal Plaza on Scotts

With their motto "what can we do for you?" it is no wonder that guests at Royal Plaza on Scotts feel cherished.
Designed primarily as a business hotel, attention to detail is very high and the staff can't do more to help you. With its location at the north end of the main shopping district of Orchard Road and a two-minute walk to the nearest MRT station, this hotel is very well located for shopping. The Mandarin Oriental

An obvious choice for honeymooners, this impressive 5-star hotel is in the very heart of the culture area of Singapore and opposite the Esplanade Theatre. 100 yards away is an almost identical hotel, The Marina Mandarin. If you are looking for a place to relax in style the Mandarin Oriental is an excellent choice. For a full review, click here.

Whether you just have a few hours or a few days, Singapore is an incredible place to visit. If you have a stopover of more than six hours, you can even take a free sight-seeing city tour from the airport before your connecting flight!
