A beautiful green wedding celebration that reflects your ‘green values’ may not be easy to plan, but it should be great fun and an exciting journey of discovery culminating in an ecofriendly day which is not only very personal and unique but gives everyone something to celebrate. It’ll certainly get your guests talking. It might just get them thinking too!
There’s no right or wrong way to plan a green wedding and knowing where to start can be a daunting prospect especially when you want to create a day that reflects your values as an environmentally concious couple.
Its worthwhile remembering that the general wedding industry relies on a bride’s enthusiasm to spend a disproportionate amount of money on arranging her day. So considering greener, local and home made alternatives when planning your wedding will go a long way to personalising your whole event. Eco weddings are becoming increasingly glamourus with forest weddings providing an attractive venue.
Oxfam and eBay both have a roaring trade in second hand wedding dresses, and couples are getting increasingly creative about adding eco-credentials to their second hand weddings by re-using and re-cyling.
Perhaps the most fun idea we have heard is “second hand guests” – particularly appropriate in an economic climate where your guests may not have the spare funds for a new outfit and a lavish gift. Set them the challenge to dress entirely in an outfit from a charity shop, saving them money and raising funds for charity. Instead of buying a gift, ask them to “re-gift” an unwanted gift.
