Covid Status Passports for Weddings

Everyone involved in weddings understands the importance of guests feeling safe and comfortable socialising. Ensuring that everyone attending is Covid free is the simple solution.

Couple on their wedding day

How do couples feel about Covid Status Passports for their wedding?

The majority of couples support the idea. They recognise that guests will be relaxed and feel more comfortable socialising.

For many couples, the ability to dance and socialise comfortably with their guests is a fundamental part of their wedding day. 80% of couples surveyed in January stated that they would prefer to have a smaller guest list if it meant they could dance with their attendees rather than be restricted to just a sit-down meal.

As a venue or event host, Covid Status Passports will allow events to return to normal faster. The cruise industry, airlines and many event venues have already recognised the importance and adopted their own systems rather than waiting for the government to decide.

How will Covid Status Passports work?

Covid Status Passports offer far more flexibility than the Covid Passport currently being discussed by the Government, which makes them more suitable for weddings where it is likely some of the attendees won’t yet have been fully vaccinated.

For example, as part of the Track and Trace process Trusted Trace simply asks guests to confirm whether they have been vaccinated, have recently had Covid or have had a negative test.

There is an option to upload evidence, such as a screenshot of test results or their NHS Covid passport. The venue, wedding planner or couple can see the list in advance of the event. Those guests that haven’t completed the declaration in advance can do a quick lateral flow test on arrival or have their temperature checked.

As it isn’t mandatory, it is down to venues and couples to set their own requirements for their guests. With quick, lateral flow tests now free and easily accessible, it's become really easy for anyone to test themselves for Covid-19 before attending a social event.

Can the NHS App be used for this?

The new Covid vaccine passport that will be incorporated into the NHS App for travel doesn’t offer the flexibility needed for wedding guests. Venues have also reported that guests are reluctant to use the existing NHS Track and Trace App.

Many venues are already using Trusted Trace but if yours isn’t, anyone can sign up for an account. It can be used online, or regular users can download the App.
