Arriving at the Castle
The magic that surrounds Clearwell Castle leaves guests completely spellbound as soon as they arrive. As you enter the Forest of Dean, there is a magic in the air like something out of a fairytale. Upon entering the village of Clearwell, it is bewildering that you still cannot catch your first glimpse of the Castle. You turn into the driveway and venture along the driveway, greeted by Molly and Tigger the famous resident donkeys. Duck under the portcullis and suddenly, the Castle is upon you.
Ample free parking and a sweeping driveway lead to the front of the Castle steps. Set within 10 acres of picturesque parkland including pristine lawns, a sparkling lake and a floodlit bandstand all make excellent photograph opportunities and keep guests entertained as they explore.
As you enter the Castle, the Great Hall welcomes you with roaring log fire, crystal chandelier and staff all with warm smiles. Enjoy the room for welcome drinks and canapés after your ceremony in the winter months or relax by the fire later on in the evening after the party has drawn to a close.
Adjacent is the Drawing Room housing the baby Grand Piano which is available for you and your guests to enjoy. Completely different in looks and style, this is a contrasting reception room for your guests to enjoy.

The Cocktail Bar will be open from guest arrival and offers a wide range of refreshments. Guests can access this bar during your drink’s reception should they wish an alternative, and the location of the bar allows us to offer a bar table service during your meal.
Unusually for a castle wedding venue, the Library does not house any books but instead plays host to a large dining table suitable for the Registrars to meet with Bride & Groom before the ‘I do’s’. This is a cosy room and often enjoyed by more mature guests looking for a quiet five minutes.
A castle wedding venue for a fairytale ceremony
The magnificent Ballroom is the central focal point of this floor of the Castle. As the Bride enters upon the arm of her Father, they float along an aisle of 75 feet. Will the Groom turn to look? The Ballroom can seat up to 150 guests in total. The raised Dias at the end is the perfect stage for the couple to sign the register in full view. The leaded windows, feature fireplace and marble pillars all add to the character of the room. Later, dine in style in this glorious space. A dedicated team of in-house chefs are on hand to create a bespoke menu just for you. The Bar and Beverages Manager will aid you to pair your wines too. A complete team of staff on hand to cater to your every whim.
When you finally venture downstairs, you will be amazed at the Cellar Bar that awaits you. A modern and contemporary space to dance the night away. Starlit LED dance floor, large bar with a vast range of drinks available all wrapped up in a true Castle cellar complete with stonework. For those that want a quiet five, the quiet room along the hall is on hand and the walls are adorned with Castle history. The children’s room is a great space for keeping the kids entertained too.
At the end of a perfect day, rest your head in one of the 15 luxurious Castle bedroom suites. With further estate cottages and the more recent addition of Crosswell House, there is now guest accommodation for over 100 people.
