The award winning Champneys brand is well known for its health farms, and Forest Mere is a great example of what they do so well.
The emphasis is very much on health rather than simply pampering, with healthy eating and a multitude of excercise classes to suit all as a core principal.
Champneys was awarded Conde Nast Traveller’s award for Best UK Spa Retreat in 2011 and although most guests stay for two or more nights Forest Mere welcomes day guests.

Having arrived ready for a day of relaxation, as we checked in and were handed a long list of exercise classes it became clear that Champneys expect their clients to be proactive in their well-being, and the theory clearly works; every exercise class seemed very well subscribed. The stunning pool area, which included a whirl pool and plenty of loungers, was packed for the aquacise class, but hardly used otherwise.
The saunas (a unisex one by the pool and single sex in the changing areas), steam room and plunge pool were fairly standard, but everything was kept very clean.
Disappointingly the Thalossotherapy pool is only available as a pre-booked treatment and we only saw two people take advantage of this great facility.
The therapist delivering my Mediterranean Bliss body treatment was exceptional, finding knots I didn’t know existed and leaving my skin soft and silky. She was happy to adapt the treatment to suit my needs without it feeling that she was rushing, or leaving anything out. My colleague tried the Prescriptive Facial which was thorough and relaxing, with a very comfortable heated bed adding to the pampering experience.
In line with their healthy ethos, the lunch was healthy, inspiring, generous and very nutritious, with a buffet in addition to a noodle bar; the latter proving particularly popular. A separate bar area served us delicious lattes when we were unable to resist caffeine cravings.
The spa was very busy on the day we visited, and as a result we found there were slight queues for lunch as well as for the toilets and showers, however the pool area was quiet throughout the day.
The staff were incredibly organised and efficient; essential in an establishment of this size.
