Canadian Colours

While coach tours around New England USA, looking at the autumn colours, is the domain of the older generation, Canada is a great destination for younger couples looking for an autumn honeymoon destination. With the rugged countryside and outdoor activities including quad biking, white water rafting, hiking, rock climbing, horse riding and whale watching this really is a destination for the young, fit and adventurous.

For the perfect sugar-coated honeymoon resort, we recommend Tremblant, a purpose built ski village 90 minutes north of Montreal. The entire village is owned and operated by Intrawest, in an almost Disney fashion, with perfect flower borders and not a speck of rubbish to be found. Although this can be a little too perfect for some, you are assured an absolutely trouble-free stay, as everything runs like clockwork.

We stayed at Homewood Suites overlooking the village square - well appointed apartments with a bed in the loft as well as a sofa bed in front of a real log fire for those romantic evenings - and at Le Westin (pictured) - widely regarded as the most suitable for honeymoon couples with everything you would expect from a 5* hotel, and their legendary "heavenly beds".

If you are looking for an active honeymoon, with long walks in stunning countryside followed by hot chocolate in front of a roaring log fire, then this is the destination for you. The ideal time to visit is in late September and early October, which suits many couples getting married late in the summer. The temperature varies widely, but can get up to the mid 20's, and the hotel pools - including those outside - tend to be kept very warm.
