8 Practical Honeymoon Tips

If your finances only allow for a low budget honeymoon,  don't despair, it's entirely possible to have a fabulous romantic honeymoon on a tight budget, as romantic and cheap honeymoons are not mutually exclusive.

There are plenty of affordable honeymoon destinations, with European and especially French and  Italian honeymoon packages very fashionable, and the cost of your honeymoon will be lower if you aren't travelling long haul, now that airline taxes make up such a high proportion of the flight costs.

If you do have the finances, or the savings, to allow you to splash out on a luxury honeymoon it is worth making it a trip to remember.

Here are a few tips to help prepare you for the biggest holiday of your life, and make sure the first steps together are memorable ones.

1. Get involved

Make sure you both get involved in the honeymoon planning. Imagine you arrive somewhere and one of you doesn’t like the location or the hotel! Make it a joint decision so you both love where you’re going, and make sure you both speak and listen to your travel advisor to find something that suits you both.

2. Honeymoon packages

Lots of agents offer package deals that include car rentals, activities, romantic dinners, spa treatments and champagne on arrival. It’s those little extras that make the difference.

3. Use your maiden name when booking

You might be excited to fly away using your new married name, but there is a good chance you won’t be able to change the name on your passport before you travel.

4. Avoiding exhaustion

Book later flights – If you’re flying out the day after your wedding then try and avoid early morning flights. The wedding would have been one of the best and emotionally draining days of your life so getting a good night’s sleep is important.

5. Relax

Start the honeymoon off  ‘de-stressing’ with a spa day or pamper session. If you’ve had a long flight then this is a great way to re-energise.

6. Packing

Pack early and pack for passion. Remember this is your honeymoon so lingerie and maybe even some exotic bubble bath can help set the mood.

7. Enjoy yourself

The most important part of your honeymoon is that you enjoy yourself. Take advantage of the hotels amenities and have the time of your life.

8. Gift list

What a great way of getting family members and friends to contribute towards your honeymoon or holiday activities. Save expense, get money towards romantic dinners and even sunset cruises, it’s a great way to pay for those extras.

Most of all, make sure that when you arrive at your honeymoon destination that you remember what it is all about; the two of you spending time getting to know each other, and it doesn't matter where you are or what your surroundings are like for you to do just that.
