What is Boho?
Boho is an upmarket form of hippy that celebrates the whimsical and unconventional, embracing the odd bit of DIY. Boho weddings are often low key with a festival feel, perfect if you don't want a traditional wedding and want to host a unique and more relaxed event .
The Boho bride
The look for a boho bride is more relaxed, with long dresses that are overlaid with crochet or lace trimmings and flat open toe sandals. Hair will be in a care-free updo or loose waves topped with a flower crown; makeup is always left natural. Boho bridesmaids will also be wearing a similar style with casual dresses in pastel shades or mismatched colours.
A Boho reception
Receptions are kept casual, with no structured wedding breakfast; just a great meal and cosy campfire in the evening. Let your guests wrap up in colourful blankets and provide them with a bag of marshmallows for roasting on the fire as a favour. Folk bands and ceilidhs provide a boho alternative to a disco and add to the relaxed atmosphere. Photobooths are also a popular addition, as they provide both guests and the newlyweds with a keepsake of the event as well as being great fun.
Boho Decorations
Barns and marquees are popular venues for boho weddings, which can be decorated with homemade bunting or fabric streamers. Choose unusual table decorations such as feathers or wild flowers, which often make up the bride's bouquet, for a quirky effect try putting them in mismatched containers. Fairy lights will add a soft glow or alternatively you could hang candles in kilner jars from trees.
Boho Accommodation
Why not have your guests glamp instead of staying at a hotel? There are plenty of companies offering accommodation in yurts, tents and tipis with beds inside so bundle up in colourful crochet blankets for a night under canvas with some of the comforts of a hotel. You might also like to try staying in a campervan or shepherd's hut, great alternatives if you don't fancy a night in a tent.
