Disney have been dropping new posters and teasers for its live adaptation of Beauty & the Beast and our childhood dreams are coming true! The star of the show? That dress. We’ve been seeing more and more of Belle’s iconic ballgown, now restyled and worn by Emma Watson (lucky, lucky girl!) - Let's take a closer look…
The woman behind the dress, costume designer Jacqueline Durran talked using silk with a satin finish and finding the perfect tone of yellow which would capture the magic on-screen. She wanted to make the dress as light as possible, allowing Belle to dance the night away with her prince. We love her reinvention and have picked apart the key elements if you wanted to recreate the look and feel with your wedding dress:
Satin & Silk
These materials catch the light and truly shimmer across the dance floor. The new Belle dress swaps ruffles for floating tiers, layering organza for those perfect swirling, twirling moments. This dress literally lifts as you move, which is down to the layers of the skirt: Something which we’d love to replicate for a first dance as husband and wife.
Sunshine-hue
What’s so magical and quirky about this dress is the colour. This year, yellow has made a surprise appearance on the wedding dress scene, which, we feel, is super well timed given that Belle’s new look has been making headlines! Why not incorporate a pale yellow into your bridal look? Now’s the moment!
No corset!
The body of this dress does away with a tight-fitting bodice for an entirely natural look: This just shows that brides don’t need to sacrifice comfort over style to look absolutely gorgeous.
Let the Dress do the Talking
Following in the footsteps of Lily Jame’s Cinderella, Emma Watson’s Belle has very light, minimal makeup paired with simple hair styling. We love how these princess-to-be’s natural beauty truly shines through, complimenting the beautiful choice of dress to perfection.
We can't wait to see Belle's wedding dress now that we've got this to go on!
