Doctors Stephanie and Alex worked at the same hospital but properly met for the first time at a Halloween party where their costumes, Supergirl and a hedgehog, made them a rather unlikely couple! But, five years later, the happy couple tied the knot at Greyfriars Church, Reading before a reception at Ardington House in a beautiful marquee. Find your perfect marquee wedding venue here!
The Venue
Both these beautiful venues had personal connections for Stephanie. Greyfriars Church, with its stunning interior, is where the bride attended services with her family as a child, while Ardington House is near her childhood home. The couple both adored the house and its gorgeous grounds, especially the gardens and lake. They had envisioned somewhere beautiful and luxurious while still being relaxed, and Ardington House fitted the bill perfectly! Stephanie and Alex also needed somewhere big enough to seat all their guests for the wedding breakfast! Luckily, the marquee in the grounds of Ardington House was ideal. When paired with the couple’s colour scheme, pink (the bride’s favourite colour), ivory and silvery green, they were able to perfectly create the desired whimsical and romantic feel!
The CeremonyÂ
The memorable ceremony saw Alex’s sister read Shakespeare’s Sonnet 116 while Stephanie’s sister-in-law read 1 Corinthians 13. Both of these passages have special meaning for the couple. Stephanie had bought Alex a book of Sonnets for Valentine’s Day one year as he loves Shakespeare and the biblical passage describes exactly how the couple feel about their love for one another. The beautiful wedding ceremony was one of the bride’s favourite moments of the day, especially when she got to see her groom in his wedding attire for the first time in a room filled with everyone they love!
The ReceptionÂ
Stephanie and Alex’s reception was full of food! After canapes with their reception drinks, there was a three course wedding breakfast. Smoked salmon salad as a starter with roast lamb with red wine jus and spring vegetables to follow. Then, as an adorable personal touch, a ‘his, hers, ours’ trio of desserts, pavlova, sticky toffee pudding and chocolate tart. As with their venue, the couple continued to ensure that their wedding truly reflected them. So, their favours were Devon fudge, representing Stephanie’s childhood summers and Indian sweets, representing Alex’s Indian heritage.Â
In the evening, the food continued with an incredible tiered ‘cheese’ cake, sausage/bacon baps and wedding cake. Bride and groom celebrated into the night as their live band kept the dancefloor packed nonstop.
