Becky and Rich - A Scottish-Themed Summer Wedding in Essex

Having met at a wedding, Becky and Rich may have had deja vu when they tied the knot themselves! After getting engaged on a Mauritius holiday, they were married in the orangery at Gaynes Park in Essex at a Scottish-inspired celebration.

The Venue

When Becky and Rich started wedding planning, finding the perfect venue was at the top of their list. Luckily, they didn't have to search for long! Gaynes Park ended up being the only place the couple visited. The bride and groom were looking for a light-filled venue, situated in gorgeous grounds. Gaynes Park met this criteria perfectly so, there was no need to look anywhere else. It was love at first sight! The stunning venue made the couple feel comfortable and relaxed, thanks to the incredible staff, which was very important to them. A  bonus was the distant glimpse of the London skyline, as this is where Becky and Rich’s love story began.

The Theme

The bride’s Scottish roots were strongly reflected by the couple’s theme! Touches of Scotland appeared throughout the day, from the colour scheme to the flowers. Becky and Rich wanted the flowers to create a statement. So, they decorated the venue with soft purple roses, eucalyptus and, of course, thistles! The couple also had wooden details, such as the table names, which matched the venue’s wooden set up and accessorised with purple water glasses for a pop of colour. The natural accents continued with their favours. Their guests received succulents decorated with wooden hearts with their names on it.

The Fashion

Bride Becky owns a bridal boutique, Clifford Burr Bridal, so was in the ideal position to find her perfect dress! She had always wanted a short, vintage style 50’s gown but also decided to have a full length gown for the ceremony. Therefore, she could have the best of both worlds! Both were in a gorgeous shade of blush pink and adorned with lace detailing. This actually surprised Becky as it was more detailed than she originally thought she wanted and she never thought she would have a long train!

The bride complimented her gowns with two different headpieces. First, a light gold hair band from Linzi Jay for during the day, followed by a floral creation by Violet and Velvet for the evening. Finishing off the look were a beautiful necklace and earrings which were a wedding day present from the bride’s parents and a Tiffany cuff from the groom!

Rich had his heart set on a new suit, so he has a lovely three piece blue suit from Harrison’s of Edinburgh. Becky’s maid of honour Laura wore an off the shoulder chiffon gown in a thistle blue colour to reflect the Scottish theme!

The Reception

To start the reception, guests could refresh themselves with elderflower prosecco spritz or something from the Bellini bar. This was followed by a sit down meal of a ham hock starter, followed by lamb three ways. For the vegetarians, there was  goat cheese ravioli followed by nut roast. Everyone enjoyed the trio of desserts to finish as well as the pizzas later in the evening. The speeches were a highlight as Becky’s dad made everyone laugh by plugging her boutique as she was quite the model!

Another favourite moment was when everyone joined in with three traditional Scottish dance numbers, creating quite the moment for everyone! The bride and groom’s first dance was incredibly special. They decided to dance to Rainbow Connection by Kermit the Frog from the Muppet movie. This unique choice was entirely sentimental as Becky calls Rich her muppet based on their love of the films as children. And Rich does an excellent Kermit impression! They were soon joined by their loved ones to celebrate all together.
