Faye and James - A Beautiful Rustic Barn Wedding in Sussex

Loved-up couple Faye and James first met on a night out in their local town of Hastings, East Sussex. After nine wonderful years together, James proposed on a beach on Fraser Island in Australia, just as the sun was setting. This was a romantic start to their 14-month engagement, before the pair tied the knot in a barn wedding at Swallows Oast, East Sussex. 

The Venue

Faye and James chose their barn wedding venue Swallows Oast as they loved the location and the grounds. "We loved the wonderful views, tranquility and the stunning Oast House and courtyard," says the bride. The venue was so beautiful that it didn't need much in the way of decor. Instead, the couple chose a colour scheme of dusky pinks, nudes and white for a rustic feel. 

The Fashion

Faye looked beautiful in a lace wedding dress from designer Victoria Kay, which featured a flattering V-neck and cap sleeves. She accessorised with a full-length wedding veil and a classic pearl necklace for a traditional touch. Her four bridesmaids wore a mix of nude and mink embellished maxi dresses from Little Mistress to match the neutral colour scheme. The groomsmen and groom all wore dashing navy blue suits purchased online. 

The Wedding Breakfast

For the meal, guests enjoyed a baked garlic and rosemary camembert for starter, before choosing an option of Parma ham-wrapped chicken breast, braised fillet of beef or vegetable tartlet for their main. Each was served with a creamy spinach mash and a rich mushroom gravy with seasonal steamed vegetables. There was a choice of delicious desserts, too. Options included warm chocolate brownie with salted caramel sauce, banoffee pie with toffee ice cream and treacle sponge with custard. "The food was utterly stunning," says Faye. "All the guests complimented it and said it was incredible!"

The Evening 

For the evening entertainment, Faye and James hired a live 12 piece swing band with an amazing singer called India, who kept everyone up and on the dancefloor. 

Favourite Moments

"My favourite moment was the 30-minute drive with my Dad in a classic silver Jaguar," Faye remembers. "We made the journey from the converted stables, where I had stayed the night before with my bridesmaids, flower girls and mother. I was so looking forward to that precious time with my Dad before he walked me down the aisle. Watching him sat next to me in the car, beaming with joy, and letting me grip his hand so tight as we approached the village of Ticehurst is a memory I will always cherish."
