Why Sri Lanka?
Sri Lanka is an intoxicating country: miles of endless beaches, kind people, enchanting ruins, flavourful food and stunning colours and smells on every corner. We just know you’re going to love your Sri Lanka honeymoon.
Sri Lanka, otherwise known thanks to its shape as the ‘pearl of the Indian Ocean’ and the ‘teardrop of India’, is one of the largest tea exporters in the world and boasts some of the highest literacy levels in South Asia. The majority of the country’s electricity comes from hydro-electric power and it is a country that is renowned for its beauty. These are just some of the wonderful facts about honeymoon Sri Lanka that will leave you spellbound and desperate to return.
About the weather:
One of the great things about Sri Lanka is that whenever you visit, because of the way of the way the monsoon seasons exist in Sri Lanka, there is inevitably good weather somewhere on the island all year round! Confusingly, Sri Lanka is affected by two monsoons on either coast every year, so the best time to visit the west and south coasts is December right through to March, whilst in terms of the east coast, we would recommend visiting from April to September.
About the culture:
Sri Lanka has a rich and fascinating history stretching back over 2,000 years and this extends into so many aspects of Sri Lankan life. It is amazing that Sri Lanka has 8 Unesco World Heritage Sites (!) for such a small island. And, because of the accessibility of the island, you can meditate in a 2,000 year old temple in the morning, visit one of the world’s oldest trees in the afternoon (Anuradhapura) and then stroll the streets of Colombo in the evening.
What we love:
The food. The building blocks of Sri Lankan cuisine are rice, coconut and spices, and the food takes influences from its Dutch colonial past, as well as its south Indian and Thai neighbours nearby. The result is a unique hybrid amalgamation of incredible flavours. From kottu to lamprais to roti, Sri Lankan food continue to surprise and excite even the most well trodden travellers.
Take me there!
