Why Santorini?
A honeymoon in Santorini means you will be on one of the most beautiful islands in the world, with ferries arriving and departing in the harbour, and visitors walking or riding donkeys up the steep winding path to the towns. The towns are equipped with hotels, restaurants, bars and plenty of nightlife to keep tourists happy while they relax between visiting the archaeological remains of ancient Thira. Other attractions include the excavations at Akrotiri, an archaeological museum, and an 18th-century monastery. Santorini has two swimming beaches, Perissa and Kamari, both characterised by their volcanic black sand.
Key information
Santorini has an irresistibly romantic draw for any sun-drenched, beach orientated honeymoon. The white Cycladic houses, with slithers of blue roofs up top, hover over rock terrace cliffs and a beguiling, crystal blue sea below – it looks like a utopia.
About the climate:
In our opinion, the best time to go on honeymoon Santorini is between late April and early November, when there is a very low chance of rain and the weather is warmer. If you’re looking to avoid the crowds and prefer more comfortable sightseeing, we suggest April to June or September to November. If however, your priority is guaranteed sunshine for swimming and sunbathing, then June, July and August would be the best time to go.
About the culture:
As a result of one of the largest volcanic eruptions in history, Santorini is essentially the remnants of that eruption with the islands all spooning around the enormous volcanic crater left behind. Historically, life on these idyllic islands go all the way back to prehistoric times, with the Minoan site of Akrotiri being a major draw, as well as the village of Oia, a stunning hilltop village that will take your breath away. The Greek locals, equally, are notoriously friendly and laid back.
What we love:
The romance. Santorini is the Mamma Mia, picture postcard, incredibly beautiful scene you dream of for a honeymoon.
