The Principal York is the perfect wedding venue in York, indeed, couples have been celebrating their wedding nuptials – and more recently tying the knot itself – for generations.
Stunning Victorian architecture, three acres of beautifully landscaped gardens, and views out to the York Minster makes us a perfect setting for your wedding day in York.
The hotel boasts a beautiful array of spaces, including banqueting rooms licensed for your civil ceremony, an outdoor terrace for a Champagne reception and private dining rooms that seat from 30 to 250 guests.
Your dedicated wedding planner will help you realise your vision for the day, recommending the best photographers, florists and entertainment providers and liaising with them on your behalf, as well as working with our chefs to create your perfect menu. Your big day will be elegant, glamorous and perfectly delivered.

This offer is available to book until 31st December 2024. A minimum number of 60 evening guests is required for this package. If the number goes below the required guests then we will need to charge for our minimum numbers or you may incur a room hire charge.

Any additional evening guests are charged at £20.00 per person. Package is based on a a minimum of 20 guests. You can upgrade your package and include your ceremony room hire if you wish to have your ceremony onsite with us, and an ivory isle runner for when walking down the aisle, for an additional £600.00.

Unfortunately we are not able to perform ceremonies outside but we do have lovely gardens and fountains for your wedding photos.
Yes we are licensed for civil ceremonies in our Crown, Wedgewood, Oak and Ebor rooms which range in size from 40 to 120 guests.
Unfortunately we are not able to offer exclusive use of our venue.
Yes we do allow you to bring your own wine and have corkage charges dependent on what you would be bringing and the quantity.
You are able to access to decorate your venue the morning of your wedding. However we are more than happy if you wanted to pass on your decorations/stationary/wedding favors to us and we can decorate the room for you.
Your evening reception will finish at midnight.
Confetti is allowed at the venue as long as it is biodegradable.
Yes we have a bridal suite that we provide to our couples.
Yes we have over 150 bedrooms at the Principal with a number of different room types for your guests.
