About Newcastle Castle

A royal fortress, graced by medieval kings and queens, where the story of a city began. Majestically perched above the River Tyne, the iconic Newcastle Castle can be your own castle for the day. We have a range of wedding packages to suit all budgets, from an intimate ceremony in our 17th-century Harbottle Suite to a grand reception in the Castle Keep. With the opportunity to hire in your own external suppliers, you'll find Newcastle Castle to be the perfect blank canvas for your dream wedding.

Our licensed ceremonies take place in the 17th-century Harbottle Suite, which is found in our original 13th-century gatehouse, The Black Gate. It is fully accessible via lift, and can host up to 50 guests. We also have a beautiful medieval Chapel, which hosts up to 30 guests and is perfect for blessings, vow renewals and commitment ceremonies.

You can choose to celebrate like 12th-century nobility by including the oldest room in Newcastle in your package - the Gaol - sharing drinks and memories with friends and family under the impressive umbrella arches of the room's striking central pillar. Alternatively, spend the night like royalty with our Twilight Package, where you and up to 80 loved ones can drink and dine in the majestic Great Hall, where King Edward I spent Christmas in 1292. You can even make your way up to the rooftop for the perfect wedding photos, incorporating breath-taking views of Newcastle, Gateshead, the Tyne valley and beyond.

Newcastle Castle is a dry-hire venue, which gives you the flexibility to bring in any external suppliers you choose. All packages include optional use of our furniture, linen and in-house decorations, while you and your venue stylist are welcome to source alternatives according to your needs and desires. We also work with various bars, caterers, musicians, hotels and other suppliers, of which we can offer personalised recommendations for a truly bespoke wedding.

The story of Newcastle began here. Let it be the beginning of your story…
