Frequently asked questions
Can we have exclusive use of the venue?
Yes - whilst we have two venues, we never hold more than one event inside the bird sanctuary on any one day - the team will be on site though to feed the birds
Are you licenced for civil ceremonies?
Not currently, you will need to separately register at a registry office - we can though host Celebrant & Humanist ceremonies or a blessing in front of your marquee or on the respective venue’s reception lawn
Can we have the wedding ceremony outdoors?
Yes - we can host Celebrant & Humanist ceremonies or a blessing in front of your marquee or on the respective venue’s reception lawn
Do you charge corkage if we supply our own wine?
No we DO NOT charge corkage - you can supply your own drinks (alcoholic & soft) and offer your guests a free or paid bar (or a combination of both) and this is run by your chosen caterer. For a paid (or donation) bar, they will apply for the relevant license (TEN) on your behalf
Can we use our own caterers?
We have a comprehensive list of carefully selected local caterers offering cuisine, service & budgetary options for you to choose from. In a few certain circumstances, we will allow other caterers subject to a surcharge and vetting
From what time can we get access to decorate the venue?
We are a non rushed venue and typically for our Canal Lake venue the marquee build is 2 days prior, with 1 day prior (9am-5pm) reserved as the "family day" for decorating, rehearsals etc
What time does the reception need to finish?
Live music, singing, chanting & dancing (including any amplified speech or music, bands, DJs, playlists, silent disco or similar) finishes by 11.00pm - sorry there is absolutely no discretion on this, followed by quiet background ‘ambient’ music with carriages departing by 11.20pm - all guests to have quietly departed by 11.30pm
Are there noise restrictions if we have a live band?
Live music is fine - we ask that you only book a professional main band or DJ and your stage/speakers are set in certain pre-agreed positions so pointing away from our immediate neighbours. If required, we will apply for the relevant license (TEN) on your behalf (in your name)
Are fireworks allowed?
Sorry due to being a bird sanctuary, we cannot permit fireworks or anything that goes bang, fizz or anything that may scare the birds as well (that includes helicopters & hot air balloons)
Is confetti allowed?
Yes fresh or dried petal is fine (as long as it is not poisonous to the birds), otherwise no non-biodegradable, metallic or paper confetti (or similar) is allowed including in confetti cannons, glitter balloons etc.
Are candles allowed?
Yes we do allow lanterns outside the marquee which are suitably set up, monitored and secured. For inside you would need to check directly with the marquee company
Is there a honeymoon or bridal suite?
We have a bridal changing room in the Coach House for the bride to use for changing (with Ceremony option from 10am until 1 hour afterwards, otherwise 1 hour after bride's arrival e.g. after church service) - this is included complimentary with the Canal Lake venue. Please note this is not provided as a baby changing or feeding facility, crèche, general changing room/cloakroom, guest rest area or for other people or usage
Is there accommodation on site?
No, we do not offer any on-site accommodation - there are plenty of hotels & (Air) B&Bs nearby and as part of our resources we offer a detailed PDF on hotel options
Is there additional accommodation nearby?
Yes, there are plenty of hotels & (Air) B&Bs nearby and as part of our resources we offer a detailed PDF on hotel options
