Frequently asked questions
Can we have exclusive use of the venue?
Yes, you certainly can! You will have full exclusivity of our beautiful grounds from Friday to Monday. Our weddings usually happen on Saturday, allowing for an easy set up on Friday and a relaxed Sunday to continue the celebrations with friends and family, before leaving on Monday. On the Thursday night before the wedding weekend, you will get a bonus night in the Bridal Suite with your own private hot tub. A lovely way to start the best weekend of your lives!
Are you licenced for civil ceremonies?
We certainly are, we have been licenced for weddings and civil ceremonies for about 7 years and have a beautiful gazebo by the lake and a lovely stone barn that has lots of character and warmth for wedding ceremonies.
Can we have the wedding ceremony outdoors?
Yes, we have a gorgeous gazebo down by the lake where most couples opt to hold their ceremony. If the weather is wet, we have a stretch canopy that offers shelter.
Do you charge corkage if we supply our own wine?
We are flexible when it comes to drinks. We can provide drinks & a bar, you can bring your own - there’s no corkage charge, or you can choose a mixture of the 2.
Can we use our own caterers?
Yes, we are flexible with outsourced caterers. You can Self-cater the whole break & wedding or bring in your choice of caterers. We have a large kitchen next to the Stone Barn which can be utilised by caterers.
From what time can we get access to decorate the venue?
If you choose to stay in the bridal Suit on Thursday Night you can start to decorate the Stone Barn then, however, we would recommend that you enjoy the Thursday night and relax, have a lie-in and enjoy the quiet time together. Guests are able to check in to The Farmhouse from 3pm on Friday, however, you are welcome to use Friday to set up.
What time does the reception need to finish?
We have no curfew, meaning you can dance and enjoy your reception all night!
Are there noise restrictions if we have a live band?
Live bands are allowed, we have hosted many great live bands in the Stone Barn. There is plenty of space for both a band and a dance floor.
Are fireworks allowed?
Yes, Fireworks are allowed, although they must be booked through our preferred supplier Sonic Fireworks. If you want something special but don't want fireworks you can opt for lanterns on the lake, which also creates a very magical atmosphere.
Is confetti allowed?
Yes, but we care about our environment and wildlife so only flower or leaf-based confetti, please!
Are candles allowed?
Yes, candles are a wonderful way to create an atmosphere for your wedding. We will advise you on where candles can be added as some places could be hazardous.
Is there a honeymoon or bridal suite?
Our wonderful couples get a four-night stay in our lovely bridal suite. Couples can book a longer stay, depending on availability.
Is there accommodation on site?
We have a gorgeous 9 bedroom Farmhouse that accommodates 19 guests. An extra 2 guests can stay in the Farmhouse if they stay on a comfy sofa bed in the snug. The Farmhouse has its own private garden with a decking area, BBQ, sauna and 2 hot tubs. From May to October we have 5 beautiful Emporer Bell Tents which can accommodate 10-20 guests. These have their own private facilities including a mains toilet and shower and camping kitchen.
Is there additional accommodation nearby?
Yes, we can recommend lots of accommodation which is situated close to Deer's Leap Retreat.
Do we have to hire chairs, tables etc?
At Deer's Leap, we offer a DIY wedding without the stress, meaning that a lot of the basics are covered. This includes: Refrigeration to chill your wines & champagne, kitchen area adjacent to the stone barn to store your accessories and any food or drink you choose to supply for your wedding. Surround sound system for your outdoor wedding: includes microphone, amp, log speakers and aux for plugging in devices. Sound system for the barn: includes mic, amp, speakers, lights. Tables & chairs or your choice, for both your ceremony & reception for up to 100 guests. Glasses: wine glasses, champagne glasses, hi balls etc for up to 100 guests. Tea station: includes cups & saucers, mugs, milk, sugar, variety of teas, hot chocolate & Fresh coffee on tap. Fairy lights, festoon lights, oil lanterns, patio heaters, fire pits, outdoor sofa & tables & chairs. Variety of wooden tables for you cake, gifts, cards, welcome drinks & desserts, variety of platters, wooden & slate & various kilner jars. Parking for you & all your guests. Support throughout the process of planning your wedding & over the weekend. Unlimited visits to Deer’s Leap in the lead up to your wedding to meet your suppliers or show family around.

2022 September and October Weddings- Gorgeous Hamper upon arrival and Couple's Massage for the first night of your stay.
Deer's Leap weekend wedding packages include a 4-night stay for the couple in our gorgeous bridal suite, including a private hot tub. Check-in at 4pm on the Thursday before wedding & check out at 10 am on Monday.
During September and October we are also offering a gorgeous hamper upon arrival and a couple's massage on the Thursday night.
We want to encourage couples to relax before the build-up and excitement of their wedding weekend!

About Deer's Leap Retreat
Nestled into a wooded valley on the edge of Exmoor National Park, Deer’s Leap is perfect for couples who want a dreamy, rustic country wedding. A place where they can create a very personal and intimate ceremony and reception, they way they want to!
We are an inclusive, relaxed and beautiful venue, full of warmth and love. Be it an elopement, small wedding for 30 or a big family get together with everyone involved, we can offer Deer’s Leap’s unique lakeside gazebo, rustic barn, a festival theme, or romantic country escape. Celebrating at Deer’s Leap will feel like a wedding holiday.
With each wedding ceremony we exclusively offer our beautiful farmhouse, with private hot tubs and sauna, providing accommodation for 19 for 3 nights, plus a 1-bedroom cottage with private hot tub for 4 nights. During the spring and summer months, 5 luxury Bell tents, which sleep up to an additional 20 people can also be hired.
We offer the flexibility to have the caterers of your choice, or self-cater, as you wish. There are various settings for your day, you may want your ceremony in our handcrafted lakeside gazebo, or our rustic stone barn. If you're planning a smaller wedding and want a more intimate surround, the main farmhouse offers a choice of rooms with oak beams and inglenook fireplaces, all licenced for ceremonies. Each couple makes it unique, from weddings under a stretch canopy in the garden or in a marquee of their choice, to nuptials by the lake followed by a reception in a traditional Tipi or Bedouin Tent.
