Pre-nuptial agreements (commonly known as "prenups") are increasingly being recognised and upheld by the English courts provided that they meet all the requirements. It is therefore advisable to have one prepared by specialists such as ourselves. Sadly, as divorce lawyers we see only too often "messy" and expensive divorces which could have been avoided with a prenup. Typically, the cost starts at about £1,500 for a straightforward one. Internationally compatible ones inevitably cost more because there are potentially more implications to consider. We usually suggest an initial meeting with one of you for £120 + VAT - but one of the requirements for recognition of a prenup is that you are not both advised by the same lawyer - and, of course, you need to allow enough time in advance of the wedding, so now may be the time to start thinking about it!
