Frequently asked questions
What’s the difference between a celebrant and a registrar?
As an Independent celebrant, I am not able to legally marry you which means that we are not restricted by marriage laws. My ceremonies recognise your emotional, physical and spiritual connection. They include promises made from the heart, and are not prescribed by religion or law. I can conduct a ceremony at whatever time and wherever you like. We can include any content you choose, for example, a toast, religious blessings or unity ceremony. I also like to include a lot of personal detail, creating a unique script for each of my couples, making their day extra special. This is something that is not possible in a statutory ceremony.
What’s the difference between a celebrant ceremony and humanist ceremony?
For me, the most important part of the ceremony is you and your partner. This means all of you - your beliefs, family, spirituality, and cultural upbringing, and I encourage you to include this in your ceremony if you choose. Humanist celebrants do not support religious or spiritual beliefs, and so traditionally will not lead or take part in sections of the ceremony which reflect this.
Will you write the service for me?
Yes! I will meet with you to find out exactly how you envisage your wedding ceremony to be and shall make sure your dreams come alive! You will have the chance to read through your ceremony before your wedding day and make any changes to make sure it's just right for you.
Can we write our own ceremony or vows?
Yes, you can! You can have as much input as you choose. Some people struggle when they sit down to write their vows to know how to get their emotions on paper. I have some top tips and am here to help you get started and, if you like, keep them secret until your big day.
Is there anything that has to be included in a service?
No. Each wedding ceremony is tailored around your wishes, so you can have what you like to make your wedding ceremony a perfect reflection of your unique relationship.
Do you cater for LGBTQ+ weddings?
Yes, I do. Equality is incredibly important to me and I am happy to work with any couple to make their wedding a day to remember.
Do you cater for multi-faith weddings?
Yes. It is important to me that your beliefs and heritage are represented, respected, and included in your ceremony as you choose.
Do you need to meet us before the wedding day?
Ideally, but if not in person then via video call. This means that I can get to know about you and your relationship so that I can create a personal and bespoke ceremony for you.
What do your prices start at?
£650
How far in advance should I book you?
Usually about 8 months to one year. However, I have conducted more spontaneous ceremonies, so give me a call and we can chat about your plans.
