Frequently asked questions
What’s the difference between a celebrant and a registrar?
In England currently, celebrants are unable to carry out legal wedding ceremonies. Celebrants are self employed and work with you to create your own ceremony. The wording can be whatever you would choose, and the venue can be wherever suits you. When a couple have a celebrant led wedding ceremony they will attend a pre arranged appointment at the register office to register their marriage and then can have the ceremony that they would like. A registrar is employed by the county council and will carry out a legal wedding in a venue that the council has approved for legal marriages. Wording to make the marriage legal is set out by the government, and there is little choice to the ceremony.
Will you write the service for me?
I will write the ceremony together with your assistance after us holding a meeting together to plan everything. And before the ceremony you will be able to look at my first draft and decide if anything needs editing...and then we can change things until you get your perfect ceremony.
Can we write our own ceremony or vows?
Definitely, if that's what you would like. Vows are personal, and they come from your heart...and if you would like to keep them a secret until the day then I will help you with that.
Is there anything that has to be included in a service?
The beauty of a celebrant-led ceremony is that there are no rules. Your ceremony should reflect your personalities, and can include whatever you like.
Do you cater for LGBTQ+ weddings?
I do! Give me a call and let's chat!
Do you need to meet us before the wedding day?
I certainly will meet you before the day - as a start for a no obligation chat before booking, usually online, and after booking when we start to plan your ceremony. From there we will play it by ear!
What do your prices start at?
My prices start at £525, with additional travelling costs if the ceremony venue is more than 50 miles from my home.
How far in advance should I book you?
It is never too early as my diary gets booked up very quickly, and you might miss out if I'm already busy!
About Liz Bagley Celebrant
I’m Liz, an Independent Celebrant specialising in the creation of unique and completely bespoke ceremonies. Whether you are having an outside wedding, in either a licensed or unlicensed venue, I will ensure that you have the day of your dreams.
I’m based in Northamptonshire, close to the boundaries of Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire.
I am trained to the highest standard achievable in England and I am fully insured. I am also a very proud member of the Association of Independent Celebrants.
There are times that you don’t want the same wedding ceremony as everyone else, or you want to use an unusual location that is not an approved wedding venue, such as in a tipi, or by the river. Or maybe you can't get the registrars to come to your venue on the date or time that you would have liked. By using my services you can have exactly what you want with no rules. Whether a formal and traditional ceremony or a laid back affair, I will meet with you and work with you to create your own special day.
I can suggest elements and rituals that you could include in your ceremony, and also help with the writing of vows. And on the day I will conduct the unique and bespoke ceremony that we have created together.
I offer a completely free no obligation chat to talk over your plans and outline what I can offer you.
