Frequently asked questions
What’s the difference between a celebrant and a registrar?
The list is long, but the most important one is that Registrars have to follow the letter of the law which prescribes the words of the ceremony scripts and prohibits any whiff of religious content, and they are therefore unable to provide very much in the way of flexibility. A Celebrant though offers total flexibility for your ceremony, where, when and how you want it to be and all the content in it. I have written a blog answering this question in more detail which you can find at: https://www.sarapricecelebrant.co.uk
What’s the difference between a celebrant ceremony and humanist ceremony?
A humanist rejects the belief that knowledge is 'revealed' to human beings by gods, or in special books and believes that human experience and rational thinking provide the only source of both knowledge and a moral code to live by. So they also do not allow any religious content in their ceremonies. A Celebrant keeps their own thought and beliefs out of your ceremony and will include the content you want to include, unless it breaks the law in any way.
Will you write the service for me?
I will write every word of your ceremony for you, but it will be based on the information you provide making it absolutely unique to you.
Can we write our own ceremony or vows?
Absolutely, although I have never been asked if couples can write their own ceremony, there would be nothing stopping them from doing so. However most couples don't want that responsibility or the additional pressure in the run up to the wedding. But I do always encourage couples to write their own vows if they want to, and offer help to do that if it's needed.
Is there anything that has to be included in a service?
Your ceremony needs a framework and with a Celebrant led ceremony you can choose exactly what elements you would like to have and how many of them you want. But no, there is nothing that HAS to be included in a Celebrant ceremony.
Do you cater for LGBTQ+ weddings?
Definitely yes I do. I welcome all couples for the simple reason that I believe that love is always love and it comes in many packages. Your wedding day is your chance to stand up in front of your family and friends and say your vows to the person you love more than anyone else in the world.
Do you cater for multi-faith weddings?
Absolutely I cater for multi faith weddings, for the exact same reason as already mentioned. If I am unfamiliar with your faith's wedding traditions I would be really happy to learn about them from you and incorporate anything into the ceremony that you would like me to.
Do you need to meet us before the wedding day?
Covid permitting it would be lovely to have out first meeting face to face if we are close enough geographically to do so. If that's not possible then Zoom offers the next best thing. I also strongly recommend a wedding rehearsal/walk through on the afternoon or early evening before the ceremony so that you and your wedding party know what you are supposed to do, when you are supposed to do it and how you are supposed to do it. It irons out any kinks and means that on the day there will be no embarrassing moments for any of you.
What do your prices start at?
My prices start at £425 for a mid week Monday to Thursday elopement or micro wedding for up to 30 people. For all ceremonies on Friday, Saturday and Sunday my prices start at £525. Mileage is not included.
How far in advance should I book you?
The further in advance the better, but really when you are ready to book is fine. I am also more than happy to accept short notice bookings.
