Frequently asked questions
What’s the difference between a celebrant and a registrar?
A Registrar is the person who will legally register your marriage. A Celebrant can do all the ceremonial elements -from personalised vows, to exchanging your wedding rings, to making your personal wedding vows to one another. A Registrar cannot include religion, and can only marry you under a fixed roof in a building licensed for the purpose of marriage. There are no such restrictions on a Celebrant.
What’s the difference between a celebrant ceremony and humanist ceremony?
In England and Wales, there is actually very little difference between a celebrant ceremony and a humanist ceremony (it is different in Scotland and NI). Both will design and deliver beautiful, personalised ceremonies at a location of your choice. However, because of their belief system, a humanist generally will not include religion or religious references. TIP! You only need to google 'celebrant' rather than 'humanist' and then you get ALL celebrants coming up in your search!
Will you write the service for me?
Of course! Words are my thing! I will take your story, your words about each other, and craft it into a ceremony that is unique enough that it couldn't be anyone else's ceremony, but traditional enough that you and your guests will be in no doubt it is your wedding celebration ceremony!
Can we write our own ceremony or vows?
Absolutely you can. I will be involved as much or as little as you wish. I encourage all couples to write their own vows - after all it is you and your beloved who will have to keep to those promises for the rest of your marriage, so it is better that you have a hand in creating them! I can, however, give you as much guidance and as many examples as you need
Is there anything that has to be included in a service?
In a celebrant ceremony? No, you can have it as short as you wish, or as long as we agree it can be, and preferably before your guests start to wonder when the bar will open! The content can be exactly as you want it to be. You don't want to make your vows public? Then don't! You don't want to exchange wedding rings? Fine! We can discuss all possibilities!
Do you cater for LGBTQ+ weddings?
I certainly do, and I am a staunch defender of love - we should all grab it with both hands and hold on to it, for it is a precious gift. I have been a supporter of Warwickshire Pride for some years now, and I welcome enquiries from couples from the LGBTQ+ community
Do you cater for multi-faith weddings?
Yes I do - and I love working with couples to create a fusion of their heritage, faiths and cultures to blend them into their marriage. Catholic-Hindu; Agnostic - Sikh; CofE-Goth ; Buddhist-Catholic - I've lost count of the multi-faith weddings I have done - and I am also happy to work with priests, imams or any other faith leaders if you wish.
Do you need to meet us before the wedding day?
Not necessarily in person, but I do like to see you both at least via Skype, Zoom or whatever - then you can see me, too to ensure that I am the right celebrant for you!
What do your prices start at?
My fees start from £495 for an elopement ceremony (just the two of you) and go up to £700+ The typical fee is around £550 (at 2020 rates)
How far in advance should I book you?
I would say around 18 months to a month before - if I am available , you can save the date! I won't start writing your ceremony until about 6 months before as I don't want your lovely script to be stale by the Big Day!
