It seems that the latest social media statistics are confirming that image and video based channels are now on the increase – with particular growth in the wedding industry, where channels such as Instagram and Pinterest can be used to share the abundance of stunning visual images.
Instagram grew 50% in 2014, with them reporting that they now have over 3oo million users. They now has more active users than Twitter (280 million). Studies found in 2014 that Instagram gets 50 times more engagement level than Twitter. “We’re proud to announce that there are now 300 million Instagrammers, sharing more than 70 million photos and videos each day.” – Instagram.
Facebooks decision to autoplay videos has increased their video viewing figures dramatically. So much so in June 2014, for the first time ever, Facebook (12.3 billion) served more video views than YouTube (11.3 billion).
All be it not widely used for business, Snapchat grew 56% in 2014 and remains the fastest growing messaging app. Facebook have tried to compete with the set up its stand alone ‘Messenger’ service. It is now the number two most used messaging app, so one to watch for 2015/16.
Tumblr’s active users grew 120% in the second half of 2014 while Facebook’s grew just 2%. In numbers Tumblr’s growth is quite amazing! The network is apparently signing up 120,000 new users every day and yet it remains one of the least exploited social networks by marketers and also advertisers.
