Developments in technology, fashion and trends emerging each year have had a massive effect on weddings – particularly wedding dresses. These days brides have the option to stay traditional in white or wear something completely different in any style or colour they like. In recent years there has been a resurgence of vintage styles – particularly the Great Gatsby look….but what about more recent ‘vintage’ styles. What about the 1980s?
Two words: shoulder pads. These were a huge hit in the 1980s – giving women a bolder look and making them look stronger and more independent; reflecting the growing presence of women in the work place and society in general. In terms of wedding dresses, the 80s were partial to giant puffy sleeves which incorporated the broad shoulders and lace detail. Accessories were big and bold and hair certainly matched!
Celebrating the changes in wedding dresses over time are The Bridelicious Boutique based in Wallingford, Oxfordshire who are hosting a ‘throwback’ to the 80’s event on 14th June with a sale of up to 70% up til then (by appointment only). Store owner Heather will be celebrating her 25th Wedding Anniversary (a date which she also shares with her parents….as well as her grandparents!) with her and her bridesmaid showcasing their dresses from 25 years ago!
