New Year, New Bride…
The glitter of the New Year’s big drop has subsided and it’s time to get out the hoover, pop the bottles back in the cupboard (or the empties in the recycling) and ready yourself for the brilliant, magical, sparkly new year…
If you’ve come out from the festive season with a ring on your finger it’s the perfect time to get organised. You may have noticed that the bestsellers topping the book charts are of the ‘NEW YEAR, NEW YOU’ variety: cleanse, detox, beautify, relocate. Whilst it may feel as though the pressure is on, brides-to-be of 2017 need not fear, change can be as simple as clearing the way to dream and plan.
A trend to take note from is achieving total zen by decluttering your life. Whilst you’re in your post-engagement happy place, it’s a great time to focus on your happy space: Where you live and your surroundings. It may be that your Christmas stocking was especially full, or you’re already contemplating your wedding gift list, but, decluttering can be a fantastic way to get into a great mindset for a productive, fulfilling year ahead. Here are a few simple changes which you can make to stay cool, calm and collected before the planning kicks in:
1) Make room for *the* dress
Take a hard look at your wardrobe, make a pile of what you wear and what you haven’t worn since that work do where you all had to do line dancing. Go away from it for a while and look again. See if you feel the same about the ‘yes’ and ‘no’ piles – now is the time to adjust. Once you’ve relegated what to keep and what to repurpose, fabulous, you’re now ready to stake your claim on prime wardrobe ‘free-space’ and bring in the new. More to the point – the dress of your dreams will someday be able to hang happily, not having to jostle for space with the insignificant.
2) The Magazine Rack and Book shelf
Are you harbouring back-copies of Vogue from 2007? Think about what’s relevant: a fabulous idea is to take cuttings of your favourite articles or sources of inspiration to keep in a scrap book, all in one place. You’ll want to make sure that you have space for incoming bridal magazines and all the romantic books possible to get you in the mood.
3) Frames at the ready
Contemplate your wall space. Weddings = snap happy guests and many a moment which you’ll want to treasure. Keep your mind on the big picture: that perfect photograph which will grace your hallway. Now is also a great time to revisit old photos of you and your love ones, or the good times spent with your significant other… You may come across wedding slideshow gold.
4) Beauty Box
Go through your products from head to toe: hair, makeup, body creams, manicures. Gain the clarity to look your best by relegating your line-up to cover everything from workaday makeup to evening pampering sessions and weekend glitz. Knowing what you have, where everything is and that it’ll make you glow in an instant is a fantastic way to go forward if you’re stuck in a rut.
Your new fabulous mantra? Love it or lose it. Do the leg work now and clear the way for brand new moments. Perfect for the newly engaged mind, body and soul.
