Last year, we bought 47 million bottles of gin in the UK, and with that, we've seen sales of gin miniatures going through the roof, with wedding favours accounting for approximately 70% of this! But why have they become so popular?
Matthew Hopkins of The Great British Exchange says, "There are some really interesting and unique varieties, pretty bottles and handwritten labels available from British craft gin makers which are perfect for brides and grooms who want to add some individuality to proceedings."
The sheer number of flavours available these days mean there's usually something for everyone (whether you prefer them with tonic or lemonade). Want a simple, crisp and clean gin? You've got it! Fancy a raspberry and rhubarb number? No problem! Parma Violet? Sure thing!
"We've also seen a big rise in local gins - Harrogate Gin, Norfolk Gin, and Manchester Gin for example," he continued. This has only added to the appeal for wedding favours, allowing couples to give their guests a memento from their wedding day that represents a place with special significance to them - perhaps it's their home town, their first date, first home or where they got engaged?
