Come Rain or Shine: How to Rainproof Your Wedding Day!
Whatever the weather, your wedding will be wonderful and nothing, in theory, can rain on your parade! However, we know that the Great British weather can often foil the best-laid plans, no matter the time of year, and brides often begin to panic as the forecast begins to look pessimistic in the lead up to the wedding.
GfB have some fantastic news for you: rain should never stop play. In fact, think of all those revellers at Glastonbury, rolling around in the mud when festival season takes a turn. We’re not saying that you have to roll around in the mud (unless it’s for a wreck-your-dress photo shoot), but a few measures in place to rainproof your wedding day will give you peace of mind…
A small thing you can do is ready the brollies. We’re not exactly Mystic Meg, but, we do know a freak shower when we see one! Save a few points at your venue to stash umbrellas and wellington boots – an especially thoughtful touch for your wedding guests and their feet! Brides and grooms can see to sorting out the perfect pair of wellies to rock in the event of drizzle, creating some of the most fantastic opportunities and flying the flag for the ever-fashionable English eccentricity! Having appropriate indoor and outdoor footwear for your wedding day is fabulous foresight – just ask bride Laura who sported fabulous pink wellies.
Make Sure You Have Cover!
For those planning an outdoor wedding, a marquee is the first thought, especially when you’re eating, dancing and celebrating alfresco! Something to consider if you’re planning on taking parts of your wedding outdoors would be providing appropriate shelter for your guests, should the heavens decide to open like at Clare and Andrew’s wedding! You may want to exchange vows out on a terrace or give your guests the option to wander your venue’s gorgeous grounds, so, spare a thought for this! Find out whether there’s a gazebo large enough to huddle under, so that guests won’t get caught in any drizzle when drinking outside during cocktail hour. Other considerations might include providing light weight blankets, festival-style tents or heaters.
Have Your Suppliers On Your Side
Are your suppliers ready, whatever the weather? To ensure that your wedding runs without a hitch, having a weatherproof suppliers and events team is a must! Before you begin to make all of your bookings during the planning process, ask your shortlisted suppliers whether the rain would stop what they’re able to provide. It can never hurt to bring up the forecast when you’re making plans and setting dates! Luckily, most suppliers these days are bonafide professionals, who you’d have hired because they know exactly what they’re doing. They should be able to prepare and adjust according to the situation, especially if that situation is just a bit of rain! Remember, photographers can also take AMAZING snaps in the rain – ones that are particularly memorable include this one from Caroline and Paul’s wedding.
Give Your Guests The Forecast
Keeping everyone up to date and informed with the outlook for your day is the best way to ensure that the entire wedding party is prepared! How helpful is it when someone reminds you that you may need to bring a jacket or appropriate shoes for walking? Very! The same applies here – keep everybody happy simply by updating your wedding website with reminders and forecasts. With your wedding invitations, you can provide an “in case of rain” instruction card with the wedding stationery, detailing alternative plans or anything guests may need to bring in the event of a not-so-sunny spell.
The Bridal Practicalities
As the bride, looking perfect is your prerogative. To ensure that you’re photo-ready and primed for anything, cover all the bases ahead of the big day! In the bathrooms, consider setting up hair dryers and extra towels in case you need to dry off at any point during the day. This’ll be perfect for re-setting your do at short notice. Similarly, plastic covering and the mighty golf umbrella can be used to shield against the rain, especially in those all important moments when you’re leaving the car to head down the aisle! As to keeping your hair and makeup in tip-top condition, always opt for a waterproof mascara (also great in case of happy tears!) and carefully consider your hairstyle.
Enjoy Every Moment
Whatever the weather, the important thing is to enjoy your day to the maximum! A little rain should never be seen as a negative, rather, focus on all of the positives: You’re getting married, you’re all together and you’re about to start on an awesome new life journey! You might not be able to stop the rain from falling, but you’re definitely able to stop it from ruining your special day! Looking back, the rain may be just what your wedding needed to add to the story!
