Adjacent to the walls of the Vatican and St. Peter's Basilica, the historic Gran Meliá is located close to the heart of Rome, to the west of the River Tiber. It is set on a small hill so benefits from cooling breezes in the hotter months and fantastic views of the city all year round. It is modern and luxurious, with Italian frescos and ornate plasterwork at every turn.

Design and location

Favoured by top film directors, producers and actors, the hotel has been designed as a luxury urban resort with extensive grounds, a swimming pool with "Bali Beds" and cabanas, a spa and terraces. This is the perfect location if you are planning a few days of relaxation while you are in Rome.

Dining

There are many various dining options at Gran Meliá; there is the famous Viva Voce restaurant by Michelin starred Alfonso Iaccarino with Mediterranean  cuisine, two bars; a Martini bar and Champagne bar, and a more casual restaurant.

The Liquid Garden is the perfect place to enjoy a cocktail or aperitif. Surrounded by the stunning pool and aromatic orange trees, the atmosphere is Italian inspired and unique in every way. In the evenings, the Liquid Garden becomes a chic meeting point for Rome's high society.

The Library is another option to enjoy a glass of champagne or afternoon tea. The room was once used as a Church, but is now used as a stylish Martini and Champagne bar which can also be used for hosting the perfect Afternoon Tea. The library is a quiet refuge for the discerning traveller, where guests can enjoy a drink by the fire overlooking the Vatican walls.

Weddings and events

The hotel offers several beautiful options for weddings. It provides an intimate and exclusive setting for not only the ceremony, but the reception and accommodation. The hotel's Lunae Terrace is the perfect area to host larger wedding banquet, surrounded by sweet orange trees and breathtaking views. The 360 degree Suite (pictured below) is suitable for receptions of up to 30 guests with breathtaking views across the city. There are various options for poolside weddings, and for the most intimate weddings, or for honeymoons, the winter garden has a gazebo, ideal for dinner for two. The hotel are happy to make all of the arrangements for you, or to work with your planner and suppliers.
