Every aspect of the occasion is dealt with correctly and professionally making it a day to remember. First of all, let me tell you what a Professional Toastmaster actually does at a function and dispel such myths like - he just has a loud voice and bangs a gavel, or - he just bosses people around !

Any event, whether it be a luncheon, dinner, wedding, conference, award ceremony or any function involving a number of guests, needs someone to co-ordinate the day, carefully liaising with all key personel, so that everything runs smoothly and on time. Of course, there is a great deal more than that, for the majority of the Toastmaster's work is unseen.
First of all, it might well be that you have never seen a Toastmaster at work, or if you have, I sincerely hope that you were impressed. Once you have decided on having one, try to find out as much as you can about him - his background, his training, what organisation he belongs to, his experiance and so forth. After all, he is the one who is going to organise and run your reception for you, he is the one to make all necessary announcements, so you must have complete faith and confidence in him and his skills and especially that he will, in no way, take over and up-stage you.
Once a Toastmaster is booked, he should arrange a meeting with the happy couple and indeed Parents and Best Man if convenient to them, wherein he will run through your wedding day in its entirity from the moment you arrive at your reception to the time when the dancing commences in the evening. From that point, he should hand over the reins to the DJ or band.
That meeting proves invaluable, for apart from bringing about quite a bit of relief all round, it gives you all a good idea on the format of the day, the timings and generally who does what, why and when !
On the wedding day, I am at the venue some two hours before anyone starts to arrive from the wedding ceremony for many reasons. It is essential that I get on well with the Carering or Banqueting Manager to ensure good teamwork, I also check that everything is as it should be, tables laid out correctly for after all, you would have been there a couple of days before for last minute arrangements and I make sure this is done.
So the Bride and Groom arrive, I strongly advise them to have a short break to re-charge their batteries whilst I get to know the photographer and show the guests where the reception drinks are being served. Then, when the Bride and Groom enter the reception, the photo shoot commences followed by a short interval when the receiving line is being arranged, all the guests are introduced to the bridal party and when all the guests are at their tables, the Bride and Groom are announced into the meal.Later on there is the ceremony of cutting the cake followed by the speeches - all cerefully planned, warmly announced and I make sure that all bouquets and presents are at hand if needs be.
