Spoil Yourself.....
One of the nicest treats imaginable in the run up to your wedding is visiting a Spa retreat. Imagine spoiling yourself (and your bridesmaids) in some sumptuous stress relief and glorious relaxation. Of course for the more energetic most Spas offer state-of-the-art gymnasiums and fitness studios, which can be complemented by the serenity of a luxurious indoor swimming pool and jacuzzi.Take time out to indulge in a massage, facial, pedicure or manicure, or try one of the alternative treatments that are now widely available. Treatments such as hot stone therapy, indian head massage, reiki and detox body wraps are all good for relaxation and help prepare you for your big day.
Hot Stone Therapy
Definitely a treat for a cold winter's day - not sure I'd recommend this treatment during the warm summer months, as the stones get incredibly hot. This is basically a body massage using oils and the heated stones. Because the therapist uses the stones to warm her hands when they first come out of the pot used to heat them, it makes the massage much deeper. As the stones gradually cool, these are then introduced to the skin in stages, and then later placed directly on the body in strategic places which warm the muscle and soft tissue below.
It's incredibly relaxing and a wonderful experience, and I literally "floated" out of the treatment room. Definitely one for making you feel really special and pampered.
Footbath Detox Therapy
This treatment is used to improve your skin quality and to give it a natural bloom. It should rid the body of the build up of toxins and improve the kidney and liver function. Alcohol, tea and coffee all leave a build up of toxins in the body over a period of time. The therapist puts salts and minerals into the footbath adds hot water and then turns it on. The combination of the salts and the electricity draws the toxins slowly out of the body which flow from your feet and are released into the water. Depending on the colour of the water indicates which toxins are present in your body. Unfortunately my water looked similar to beef stock, quite thick and soupy and with bits in it!
Later on I felt quite tired and incredibly thirsty and of course alcohol is definitely not recommended. Ideally you should have a course of six treatments once a week to see the benefits which should be an improvement to your skin quality and circulation. (My therapist also told me she has clients who use this treatment regularly to help with inflammed joint problems).
As this therapy takes half an hour, it's also a great opportunity for you to get to know your therapist and talk to her about your plans for your wedding day.
