Soul/Funk Bands in Buckinghamshire?

Wondering if anyone can help?!

We're looking for a soul/funk band to play at our wedding in Burnham, Buckinghamshire in September 2012. Ideally looking for a resonably local band - has anyone got any recommendations?

We've been advised by the venue to try and find a local band so that they can set up prior to the wedding breakfast to save a long gap where guests have to leave the room after dinner so the band can set up. Has anyone got any thoughts on this, am I likely to be able to find a band prepared to set up earlier in the day?

Definitely definitely definitely get them to set up earlier in the day as it takes ages to wire everything up and do a sound check.

You then need to make sure no children can mess about with their kit or unplug anything before they start!

I don't know any soul or funk bands in the area. Have you tried an entertainment / music agency; I used Orange who advertise on this site as we needed a jazz band and didn't know where to start.

Reasonably priced is hard - we paid £1500 which was cheap by other standards (some quoted £4000) although amateur groups will work cheaper, but your venue will need them to have insurance which pushes the price up again.

There is an entertainment agency based in Bicester who work in Buckinghamshire and have some great soul/funk bands available to hire

Hi Jen

Subway are a great Soul/Funk/disco/pop band, female fronted that play an eclectic mix of music and will learn your first dance for you. We bring along a lighting engineer who controls the rig while we play our sets and in between he DJ's so there is end to end entertainment. As we are professional it takes us 45 minutes or less to bring in all the gear, lighting and equipment, set up and because we do so many a year we are fine with no sound check apart from a quick 1, 2 testing. We arrive at the venue 1 hour prior to your first dance and leave after performing at least 3 x 45 minute sets and giving everyone a great time in the meantime. Prices start from a staggeringly low £1350 for 2012, however, if you did want us to come in the morning and stay for the entire day this would put the price up to £2000, but we would be willing to do it. After all it is your special day - and you can have whatever you want.
