The View From The Shard

The London Skyline is one of the most phenomenal views in the UK; the perfect place for a romantic date or proposal.  Whilst many sky high London restaurants come with a hefty price tag, lunch at Aqua Shard comes at an affordable price. Aqua Shard offers the chance to relish this incredible panoramic view whilst sampling some of London’s finest cuisine.

Photo credit: Aqua Shard Upon entering the soaring building we were directed towards the self-operating lift which slickly transported us up to the 31^st floor. We decided to begin our Aqua Shard experience the best way – with a drink at the bar. The bar service was impeccable and the cocktail menu was extensive and very innovative (anyone fancy a ‘Weekend On The Slopes’ made with vodka, lemon, sugar, champagne and the slightly strange addition of goats cheese?) We played it a bit more safe and ordered two ‘Strawberry Cheesecakes’ – served in a delightful vintage tea cup.

After devouring our cocktails and ordering a bottle of Sancere, we were swiftly taken over to our perfectly-positioned table right beside the floor-to ceiling windows.  The table service was excellent and waiting staff were friendly and professional. We ordered from set-menu which was very reasonably priced at £34 for 3 courses. The ‘Cured Rose Bay shrimps with champagne emulsion’ were perfectly juicy and the ‘Winter vegetable salad with celeriac and tonka bean cream’ was impeccably presented and exotic tasting.

After delighting in the food, cocktails and views, there was one last thing we needed to see before our Aqua Shard experience was complete. Strange as it may sound, our trip to the toilet was the picture-perfect finale to our wonderful meal; the panoramic views and mirrored decor made even the toilets a spectacular experience. Aqua Shard really is an affordable London gem for those special occasions and is definitely worth a visit.
