How to Have a Halloween Inspired Wedding

We love a themed wedding at Guides for Brides, and a spooky Halloween themed wedding is one of our favourite alternative wedding themes! If you're not sure how to pull off a chic yet creepy wedding theme, then here are some spooktacular ideas to get you started...

Pick a haunted venue

Instead of working extra hard to transform a marquee or sports hall into a Halloween themed space, why not let your wedding venue do the hard work for you? A gothic manor house, ruined chapel or imposing castle is the perfect wedding venue for a Halloween wedding - especially if it has a history of being haunted! Take a look at our top picks for haunted wedding venues in the UK.

A creepy colour scheme

A Halloween wedding doesn't have to mean plastic skeletons and fake blood at every turn! If you're looking for a more elegant alternative, then a lot can be done with clever colour theming. Choose classic black and orange, spooky shades of purple and green, or rich jewel tones with plenty of black for a wedding theme that feels classic rather than clunky.

Pumpkins, pumpkins, pumpkins!

One of the easiest way to integrate Halloween into your October wedding is to use pumpkins wherever possible - whether it's carved pumpkins as wedding decor, painted mini pumpkins as table centres, pumpkin lanterns outside or pumpkin in the menu as part of the food and drink. If you're not having orange as part of your wedding theme, then painting pumpkins white, metallic or even black is a great way to match them to your wedding theme.

Spooky food

Speaking of the menu, your wedding food is a great way to include a fun Halloween theme. As we mentioned before, pumpkin pie, soup or risotto is a perfect subtle Halloween reference, or you can have bowls of sweets on the tables for your guests to dip into, trick or treat style. A dessert table is a fantastic place to make the most of a spooky theme, either with fun Halloween desserts (tombstone cupcakes or eyeball cake pops, anyone?) or simply colour theming your table.

Guests in fancy dress

If you're fully embracing the Halloween theme, then forgo the traditional wedding dress code and ask your guests to arrive in fancy dress! It'll make for an amazing set of wedding photos, as well as a fun atmosphere for the reception. If you don't want to go the whole hog, why not provide a fancy dress box at the reception for your guests to add on spooky accessories after the ceremony?

Black wedding dress

What better day to wear a black wedding dress than on Halloween? Black wedding dresses are becoming increasingly popular with brides looking for an alternative to traditional white, so it's always worth taking a look at designers such as Martina Liana, Ian Stuart and Ronald Joyce. A black lace gown with a bouquet of blood red roses is ideal for a Halloween bride.
