You may be proud of your new surname, but changing your name on your passport before your honeymoon can cause you some logistical nightmares. Your flights, visa, hotel booking, credit cards and passport must all be in the same name to avoid problems whilst away.

Desperate to change it before the honeymoon?

You can change the name on your passport 3 months before the ceremony, however the passport is only then valid from the date of the ceremony and certain countries won't issue visas for post-dated passports, so check this online first. Remember to make sure the entire holiday, from flights to accommodation, is booked using your new name.

Waiting until after the honeymoon?

After the ceremony you simply need your marriage certificate in order to change your name on your passport. Wait until after your honeymoon and change all of your documentation - from driving license to credit cards - at the same time. There is no deadline, any many brides choose to keep their maiden name, but you will find it much easier if you are changing your name on one legal document to change it everywhere.
